start off this story, within the month ive found two phones. ive called up the last dialled person and told them i have the phone and who ever owned it to come meet me and get it. im not a dog c**t and steal shit, i know how it feels to lose shit.

i went to work thursday morning, like any other morning i put my wallet, keys, phone and ipod on my desk. now usually the guy i work with takes my ipod and listens to it out back. anyway the mum at my work couldnt drop her 5-6yo daughter off at the play group because the UCI cycling blocked off the roads to get there. so she had to bring her to work, which i had no problem with. got to watch a couple of movies and she drew me some pictures which was alright. little later on i noticed my pod was gone so i just assumed the other bloke took it. the day ended and i forgot to grab it, but i was catchin up with him after work so i knew id just grab it off him then. i went over to his and asked to for the pod, and he tells me he doesnt have it, he didnt grab it cause he didnt bring his ipod dock in with him to work.

so bit confused i remembered few weeks back the mum asking me how much an ipod is worth cause her daughter wants one, and after telling her rough price $150+ she practically said screw that. now i didnt want to accuse her daughter but all fingers are starting to point to her. she was around me all day, near all my gear, and i was moving constantly away from my desk.

so friday mornin walked into work, politely asked if she'd seen my ipod. just a quick snappy 'no' response. just sorta stood there like the fk? usually people say 'oh did you lose it' then u tell the story but she didnt even give me that. so fk it i told her story anyway. after the story she just said 'thats funny no one walked in the office yesterday' to which i responded with 'ye do you mind askin your daughter if shes seen it anywhere' (hint hint ur daughter pocketed my shit) she just goes 'i didnt even see you bring it in yesterday' now i didnt want this to turn into a shit fight with her, i just wanted my pod back, i spent alot of time finding, downloading, settin it up the way i want it, and its sort of irreplaceable to me.

i sort of wrote it off, like im not gunna get it back. went to JB today and was lookin at the new ipod nanos. just stood there, looked at the design, looked at the price. thinkin why the fk should i have to spend $180 bucks on top of the $250 i originally paid for my other nano. on a shit lookin ipod when i know i could get my pod back, the way i like, with all my music.


so need some advice for what i can say monday morning, cause i doubt she would have asked her daughter. and also i wouldnt mind hearing some stories of people property gettin knocked off/or lost but returning back to them.

I dunno what this woman is like, but I suppose you could try reasoning with her, telling her that you brought it in that morning, and that other than her daughter, nobody had been in your area all day, and it was missing by the days end? Subtlely suggest that her daughter may have been 'so disappointed by not being able to have one' that she might take one for herself without considering what she was doing? If you make the kid sound like a saint who made a mistake, you'd probably get further than if you implied the kid was a little shithead thief lol.

And of course, if she reacts badly and refuses to even consider the possibility that it was her daughter, then tell her ok, but her daughter will not, under any circumstances, be allowed near your property again.

Even police don't arrest people unless they have sufficient evidence to support doing so.

OP - if you are reasonably certain that the daughter has pinched it, go to the police and report your loss. You will have to tell them how you lost it and your suspicions about who has it. If the evidence is strong enough, they can at least interview the mother and daughter. Perhaps that might get you somewhere. But whatever you do, don't try to take the law into your own hands and "arrest her" - it will cause you serious grief.

Keep in mind you still have to work with this woman. If her daughter is not responsible it may make things very awkward for you at work mate.

I'd just make it well known around the place that it was stolen and would not speculate who did it. You never know, it might mysteriously reappear. The problem is you don't categorically know the kid nicked it and short of catching them red-handed all that will happen is you will make an enemy out of the mother. Let it be known it was stolen and if the kid suddenly appears with an unexplained ipod mum will see it. Then you just have to hope she does the right thing.

Either way, lesson learned - don't leave your shit laying around. Sad, but that's the way of the world

give it another 6 months and you'll be in Apple asking for a new battery, I got an aftermarket higher mAh battery installed and it can lat 2 days and I'm constantly on it, my other battery deteriorated over the year to the point where id have to get an external pocket charger and make the phone brickier

im not going to get cops involved or make a citizen arrest. cops have better things to do than find my ipod. and correct reap, i didnt catch her stealing it. thats why i want to make it as subtle as possible in case im wrong and it grew legs and walked off by itself lol. plus the chick i work with is mint to be around, so i dont want to go burning any bridges. i think tomorrow ill just go around asking everybody if they've seen it but make sure shes around to hear it and hopefully her (if her daughter has it) her mum sees her playin with it and boom i get it back
