Hey guys, just had an odd conversation from someone at GM Holden main office.
I rang up Holden to enquire about a car i just purchased as i cannot find any information anywhere (online or offline). The car i am trying to research is a VL 200 series made in april 88.
Holden claims that they do not have ANY records of any vehicles produced by Holden from approx 1971 to 1989. They could not give me any information whatsoever and explained it as a computer glitch years ago that wiped all information that they had stored.
Has anyone else had this issue with Holden? It sounds absolutely crazy that the manufacturer has lost all records of vehicles produced between such a large period.
On a side not, any info on the VL 200 series would be appreciated. So far all i can gather is that it is a special hybrid interior, one off paint job, badging etc. All were auto, 600 made, special for the 200th anniversary of Australia. Thats about all the info i have and can seem to find
When searching for info on the first VN made - same problem. No info.
White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
Anyone have any suggestions of where to search for info? I have obviously tried google, majority of car clubs and even Holden with nil success! Am pretty stumped.....
Also had aircon with calais tacho dash (odd for auto). Series 200 lable on dash. Australian anniversary sticker on rear windscreen, series 200 written on lower door exterior and appearantly a couple of minor performance adjustments under bonnet (not confirmed). Also possibly a towball from factory - mine came with one but not sure if stock.
i heard somewhere that they only kept vehicle info for so many years then got rid of it to make way for the newer vehicles, could be a rumour could be complete BS, but it is a possibility

whoever you spoke with at Holden is not telling the whole story - they probably don't even know.
they definitely do have the old information but it's in stored in various formats that are not compatible with the new global GMH information systems hardware and software.
when they cut over to the new systems about 10 years ago, 10 years of info from the older systems was converted to the newer systems which sort of lines up with 1990 onwards
it would be a major hassle/cost for them to dig out pre 1990 info but it does still exist and they could do it if they really needed to (eg major court case, legal issues, etc.)
believe it or not, i am a nerd (and a bogan hoon yobbo) and i worked on the project to implement the new systems.
Interesting! Cheers for the info guys, apologies if another similar thread is running!
