    Default Bloody SCUMS!!

Just had three guys trying to steal my wheels tonight.
Question for you guys: how good are HSV lock nuts for VE.

I saw one person crouched behind the passenger side so I went out side with *something* about to confront them but then i got smart and decided to blinking the car (forgot it had the alarm) first and to my amazement three lebos popped out and decided to run down the street where they have parked their car and sped off.

Since three guys popped out i guess i was in shock and just stood there for a while till i realise that i should chase them in my and find out the number plate but because of the delay and that i had to do a U-turn i lost them.

I saw that they only took the lock nut cover off and that there was scratches (i'll take pictures tomorrow) indicating that it's been tempered with. I tried to look around for that cover because it should have fingerprints all over it but couldn't find it. The cops will come in the morning thought to do a finger print search.

Is it possible to have someone else out there having the same lock nut key to mine? I know they were just testing if they could undo the lock nut tonight because they didn't have any jacks on them. (i dont think so. )

    does this happen a lot?

Never had any wheels pinched myself. Lock nuts only seem to be as good as the vice grips etc that are required to get them off. Lucky timing that you didn't loose your wheels. Whats with the racial slur?

I had mine stolen last year... the guy was caught however, and I got a cheque from the cops a year later. Not only did he loose money on selling em, he also has a criminal record, sucker.

    Lebo's isn't really a racial slur imo

Lebo isn't a slur, they are lebonese.

Lock nuts are only a deterant, if the theives want the wheels they'll get them.

i suppose there is a small chance someone would have a similar locknut to u. locknuts are not failsafe though. but in this case it may have slowed them down long enough for u to find them. if u didnt have locknuts u car may have been on bricks by the time u came out

Just lower your car so much that No one will be able to fit a jack under there.
You can tap a 3/4" socket onto any locknut and use a ratchet to get it off. As i had to do this when i bought a car with locknuts and no locknut key.
They are hardly failsafe but definetely take longer to get off. Save your money on locknuts and invest in a car alarm with wheel sensors.

there are some pretty good ones out there now..

ive seen a few which i dont think are removable..
ie. round with a flower/random patten in the middle which the key JUST fits in..

only way to remove these nuts without the key would be to weld on another nut and remove.

I have a set of those lock nuts. Just shove a pair of pointy nose pliers in and they come off relatively easy.

i don't think you're meant to put a different lock nut on each wheel, something about they're not the same strength as a proper nut, not sure how it works, but there's a reason they don't do it stock.

They have keys for ignition systems and boots and doors, why not one for wheels hidden behind the center cap or something like that? As for stock i'm saying.

After doing some searching, lock nuts are stupid and it'll just slow down the scums but i think i will put on another set because the first seemed to work.

I want to ask you guys.. Is there already an alarm system in VE SV6?? I want to get an alarm system with tilt or motion sensor now.

beauzo: is there really a "wheel sensor" system?? that will be heaps good. because i've read that sometimes, some scums can still steal you're wheels even if you're car is fitted with a tilt sensor because they don't jack the car high enough. (Tilt sensor more for protecting you're car from getting towed away in the middle of the night).

Suprised no one has mentioned gorilla guard lock nuts. The ones with a free spinning sleeve covering the combo. Cant bash a socket on them and if you do them up tight enough (duh) you cant pull them off with pointy nose pliers.

The Wheel Deal is selling sets in the sponsor section.

WTF? One latent fingerprint is enough to do a search against NAFIS.
