As title states.
I have learned to drive a manual car in the past, several years back, i was never great at it, but apparently good enough to get my licence on it. Been driving autos ever since and i want to get back into driving manuals, so i'm looking into getting a somewhat cheap manual so i can relearn how to drive it, wouldn't go over $10,000. What do you lot recommend for a good cheap manual car, fast or slow is fine, as long as its not an overly difficult car to drive.
just get a little corolla or something. pretty much all little small manuals are easy to drive as long as there's nothing wrong with them.
did all my learning in a hyuandi excel, best little manual car ever.
can practically take off without the accelerator the clutch is that light.
10 thou is a pretty decent budget for a cheap car, but basically anything small/gutless is going to have a pretty easy clutch. I'd say anything with 4 cylinders would be good. But whatever manual car you drive you'll have to get used to it, and the more difficult that one is the easier it'll be to just get into other ones and drive.
^most cars i'm pretty sure you can take off without acceleration aslong as you do it slowly.
But i learnt in a Hyundai Excel aswell. Cheap, and easy as piss to sell.
i 3rd the hyundai excel i still have mine as my shitbox work car.. and mose of the time i dont even use the clutch haha its really easy to match revs on.
but yeah the clutch has alot of give on the grab point so pretty much impossible to stall/kangaroo unless your retarded 0.o
for 10k you could pick up an almost new getz but if you just wanna get ya practice back up buy a $500 swift/charade/excel etc.
cheers all
$10k would be looking at something like an S13 turbo or a V8 manual commo, but that might be pushing given how rusty i'd be at driving manual. Might be best to get an elcheapo car, learn in it, then do it up with a tight budget, and then sell it off to fund a better car haha.
Anything with a tonne of torque will be easy. Little 4banga's love to stall.
10k eh?
Find yourself a really nice VN - VS SS.
Clutch is easy as piss, buckloads of torque so you won't have to use 3million rpm to get off the line.
old school toyota land cruiser ! if you stall one of them your doing ####in well
Hahaha, 9million to 1 compression.
thats what i learnt to drive and i couldn't have turned out better, hill starts where my bitch in the test haha didn't even need to ride the clutch, just let her out and let the tourque do the job
Spooled VN? na in all seriousness though, any 4 cylinder would be a good starting point in my opinion.
Why?
They're harder then anything to learn in.
xcel or pulsar
1.3 4 speed 4 banger Ke70, Sitting at around 3500 in 4th at 80 lol, Something along the lines is awesome car though factory cruise control, just rip the choke out and ya laughing how many cars do you get these days for under 1g with cruise not manythey go forever take so much punishment
Cool little cars can take of easy in second easy heaps good lil car
... Loved mine head went on it so i sold it lol
Speed never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, now that's what gets you...
i learned to drive manual on my mums 04 forester and while it was a bit tricky getting used to the clutch setting that they have i now have to problems hoping in any manual car and adapting straight away to the clutch setting
It'd be mainly for learning purposes, if i was actually to go ahead with modding a cheap car i bought, itd be all DIY to cut costs and for me to learn as well, if something screws up then less harm will be done than if it was to happen to my daily driver.
$10k might be pushing it after reevaluating my finances, $2k or less would be my current budget, so its pretty much an old 4 banger with high k's, though i have seen a few older V6 commodores going for less than $2k with manual transmission. I'm thinking commodore, at least i wont need to thrash it to keep up with traffic.
buy something with a HEAVY button clutch, cam that makes no power to 2000rpm, no power steer and locked diff.
once you master that - you'll have broadened your "able to drive car" range massively![]()
^^
HAhahahahaha, so very very true.
V6 commo + t5 should be pretty decent to learn in. Gutless manual 4cylinders are just annoying.
Pulsars are alright, I used to drive it anywhere over 3 hours a day for work. You dont have to rev it much at all to take off, and when you want you can take of with wheelspin and through 1st and chrip 2nd haha. It has a factory LSD too. Pedal has a fair bit of ride but can be grabby at friction point. You would probably be right with a V6 and a standard clutch. I stuck a heavy clutch in it after pulling the auto out so I cant really say what its like.
Easiest car Ive driven was some toyota hatchback thing, probably early 00 model that I drove a few times before going for my licence. That thing was piss easy. Really smooth friction point. If you stall that you should just give up haha
I learned in a series 2 VN Executive, with a clutch that felt like I was stepping on a rock. I am almost certain it did permanent damage to my left foot!
But, now I can drive pretty much anything...
Buy anything, to be honest you will learn no matter what it is...
but whatever you buy, spend some time just riding the clutch in the drive way with no accelerater so you can feel where the pressure point is... Then you will be pro, i learnt to drive manual in a 3L nissan patrol haha slowest car i have ever driven.
Why not get a falcon? same gearbox and diff as the commodores, but the ford I6 is such a better engine then the holden 6's....???
