in an argument with a mate about his "lancer". he says his car doesnt have lifters. i say it does. as in having tappets. am i correct in believing that a tappet is still a lifter? or am i wrong? i know the difference between the two but still thort you could call them the same name....
cheers,
Tappet is the same thing as a rocker, pushes the valve down to open it.
Lifter is the thing that rides the cam to push on the push rod, which moves the rocker.
So if he has an overhead cam, he doesnt have lifters.
Being a 4cylinder lancer, i would dare say it would be an either a SOHC or a DOHC.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
not the same thing really

doesnt the tappet sit inside the rocker arm basicly doing the same thing as a lifter?
Hydraulic tappet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
this also describes them as a lifter?
i just thort you could call them the same thing...
oh well. lol
some overhead cams still use lifters. like the MX6. protects the valve tip and takes up some lash. RB26's use shims.
