Heyy,
About 3-4 weeks ago a Minister for Sport & Recreation ran up the back end of a Merc driver which ended up hitting the back end of my car. My rear bumper is a lil damaged and my acrylic number plate got smashed. He said it was his fault etc so all 3 of us put in a police report etc. It was the week of the Grand Final AFL so he was over there, so I thought ok.. I'll just wait a bit. When he returned he told me he put the claim in and I should get a call soon. So I waited a bit longer. Still didn't get a call so I emailed him (I was working at the time) and his secretary replied and told me the details about his Insurance (RiskCover (Government Insurance)) so I rang them up and they tell me to get 2 quotes for them from anywhere and I asked about my number plate and she also told me to get a quote for that (It costs $193 to get new ones made up for Acrylic! I've only had mine a couple of months (paid $550)).
RiskCover said they'd do a cash settlement? what does that mean? is that good or bad?
For the past couple weeks now I've been trying to get quotes to get my rear bumper fixed! I've got 1 written quote from a friend at a smash repair but I can't get this other quote!! I've been to 4 different smash repairs and they all won't give me a quote! I've used my fuel and my lunch time to go to these darn places and no one is willing to give me a written quote! (Smash repairs are generally only open monday to friday working hours).
This Insurance/Smash Repairs is bloody unbelievable! I just came back from one and they said they wouldn't do it and even if they did there's like a 2yr wait because they are still doing hail damaged cars!
Btw, this is my first time in a car accident. It's been a nightmare!!
Edit: I'm ready to murder someone. I stuck my number plate back the best I can and stuck it on my rear window but I dont want to be pulled up for it! and it's a hazard for me aswell. Except I don't want to fork out $200 to get a new number plate after I had just paid $550 to get them! because some guy ran up my ass!

hi mate,
a cash settlement is they will pay you out so you can go and get it fixed and more than likely have cash left over or get other things you want done as well.
i have done this on a car i had awhile back some goose ran into it,
i got a quote for 1g from a spay painter for an insurance job,or a $500 cash job and i also got other little things fixed up worked better for me.
though try get a quote from one, then see what there willing to pay you...........
I was just speaking to the Smash repairs I been to and he said I could come off worse. He said the Smash Repairer may quote $800 and the Insurance will pay you $600 or something rather. Is this BS? I was thinking that because it's a Insurance company they'd charge more but if It's a personal thing it'd be less? I don't care aslong as my Plates and Bumper are fixed with me not having to spend a penny because it wasn't my fault!
Edit: Also I never knew this but Smash Repairs charge $65 or $75 to get a private quote! (U don't pay if you use them). I never knew that. That's BS too.

Nop. I went around my work in Claremont (near city) and they deal with Chryslers etc.. so I thought ok they are a big company dealing with expensive cars (they were charging $65). But today I went to Osborne Park (Industrial kind of area) and they wanted $75 for a private quote. 2 out of the 4 places I been charged for private quotes (I didn't ask or see a sign with the other 2).
I'm calling this other smash repair that my step mum went to, they will see if they working on saturday and if they are I can bring my car in. I hope they better get me a written quote. I did tell them its for Insurance and also RiskCover and they said I cant have a written quote straight away but they will do it. If they won't I'm calling the Insurance and telling them and If they want another quote they have to tell me who/where to go... I've had enough of driving around for them!

I've got a friend that should be able to fix my car pretty quick. She quoted a new bumper, so once I get the money from Insurance I'll buy a aftermarket bumper and whack that on. Siff pay close to $600 for bumper from Toyota. I'll buy a better looking aftermarket with the money and put that on.
