OK... First I'd like to just say this. I will NEVER laugh at or pay out anyone who whinges about back pain EVER again!
Since the early hours of Sunday morning I have had lower back muscles that just refuse to relax. I almost couldn't move on Monday so made some arrangements for a physio session that afternoon. Tell you what, those guys have magic hands and can do things I didn't think possible.
Had a follow up this morning and while it's always nice to get rubbed down by an attractive female, the benefits in doing it are unbelievable. Now I'm not the fittest guy in the world but once I'm over this injury, I'm dedicating myself to getting in shape, getting fit and maintaining the use of sports physio. For anyone with any sort of muscular injury or strain, I can't recommend finding a decent physio enough!!!
Oh the worst part about it all... Sitting is the worst thing I can do. Standing, walking, moving around is fine. My boss has been great as she has suffered in the past so I now have a desk I can stand at - AWESOME!
ive got a prolapsed disk causing sciatica next month will be a year since i did it looks like im getting the op next month
I injured my lower back digging a trench almost 3 years ago now. Using a jack hammer I kept twisting to my left when lifting it. Fail!
Tried chiro, phyisio, painkillers galore... so far the thing that has worked the best for me has being going to gym and doing various palaties (however you spell it) excercised that focus on core strength.
So yeah, gym is definately your best bet though you want to make sure you take it easy as not to aggirvate it.
Good luck.
Yeah... Good thing is I have permanent disability insurance so if it turns out to be chronic, I'm covered. It's improving though so fingers crossed should be all good pretty soon.
Yeah unfortunately money doesn't really compensate for a lack of mobility or constant pain. I've had a recurring tendon injury in my wrist that simply won't go away. Doesn't affect my strength but has screwed up my fine motor skills. It is really surprising how something that seems so small can affect your quality of life. I tried physio a few times but it hasn't really helped. Cortisone Injections seem to work but they're temporary.
I have had the same problem for a fair while.....so far I have had 2 operations to do with my discs and both were a success. My first was about 20 years ago when back surgery was not what it is today testing and procedure wise. After the surgery on l4-5 the pain mainly confined to my right leg persisted for a little while I was recovering from the operation but about 3 months after I was completely cured and led a normal life with no pain at all.
5 years ago I lifted something a little heavy from a crouch position and felt something go and the pain returned....I have been treating it with swimming exercises and underwater walking as per a sports physio Roy Rankin and it worked a treat and in time relieved the pain to only slight and I kept up the pool work.
In July this year I again lifted something and it went again this time with venom....I was forced to see a surgeon and in August I had a operation on the same disc l4-5 and also 3-4 ....its all good again and now I lift nothing over 20 kg and am very cautious at anything from a crouching position but pain is gone my postiture is back to normal and I cant recommend it more with the right surgeon Paul Licina.
Actual hospital time is minimial nowdays with most discectomy operations performed in the afternoon with you coming out of theatre around 6 pm and as long as all goes well home by 9pm that night with a 6 week recovery time.

I agree with CSP on this, I currently have a shoulder issue and the physio has help a great deal with it.
Back pain is just a part of my life nowadays as is loss of movement
I fractured L3,4 + 5 so yeah thats fun, as i have basically 0 function in my left arm. oh and i walk funny due to leg issues too
All i can say is that without physio I would still be in a damn wheelchair n not walking.driving,working. well living my life in any meaningful manner
Did she ask if you wanted a happy ending?
Seriously though, I've seen my old man and Mum go through it. I still remember one night where the ambos took my Dad away at about 2am because he was in that much pain. And my Mum has had more issues than you care to know about... she is lucky to be walking after her hip and back problems.
Physios are miracle workers but it can be hard finding the right one for your injury as in some have better reps for certain areas than others, I use 2 for my sports stuff cause one although shes really good with shoulders thought I just strained something like 90% of her clients but I actually broke off part of my collar bone. Worked miracles on my partially torn quad though.
I've fractured L3 - 4 as well, playing basketball about 7 or 8 years ago now, every now and then I get a few days with lower back pain but it's not too bad. The thing is to stay active and keep the muscles working. I still play ball now and I'm 42 on Sunday. It takes me a bit longer to recover now than it used to, but I have more pain in my knees than my back the day after a game.
lol, my back is shocking!
I've had problems for ages and like csp, i'm not the fittest in the world and that certainly contributes to it. I also need to get in shape!
I just get a massage every 2 weeks for half an hour and that straightens me up. I've got a habit of popping out my back ribs, feels weird getting pushed back in.

physios can only do so much, ive found that the gym and regular back exercises do help, but you need to work out a daily/weekly workout program, its so so easy to over do it and make things worse...
i hear ya with this one.
i have had back pain since i was about 11 years old (i fell out of a tree)
and was on heavy medication and physio and stuff till about 14 - 15
as i got older it gradually went away then last year came back as bad as ever.. so i joined a gym and worked on my lower back abs and lats and it made it good to the point of zero pain.. then i stopped going for about 2 months.. and just this day it hurt again and i had to take the day off work....
it sucks and i definitely recommend joining a gym.
i am now 20.
I have suffered from back pain for the last 20 years and found physio to be pretty good but have now started having laser accupuncture and i think the results are 100% better than physio and there is zero pain involved .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
I for one can certainly relate to back pain, get it fairly bad in the lower back. First thing in the morning I just have no movement so the simple things like putting shoes / socks on is a nightmare and even something as getting into the car is painful.
I have tried chiro - never again made things worse rather than better.
Physio - I don't take too well to manual manipulation so comes back to exercise which I've been doing the past 12 months, very slow progress but thinking of trying something different.
What makes things worse I'm lifting computers around the place which tends to aggravate it, with a job role change soon I'm hoping it gets a whole lot better.
Out of curiosity what's laser accupuncture worth? That sounds rather interesting.
LOl, at school i slipped a disc in my neck and at 17 i was hit by a car on my bike. back pain is a constant friend of mine. i'm on a first name basis with my sports physio. i have good years and bad years. i'm currently on a downward trend, the next year will be a tough one i think
i find swimming is a really good exercise as it's a complete all over body workout

Yep extreme back pain too, When i was about 15 fell out of a tree and landed on my neck, over night in hospital in intensive care. have bad neck/back pain daily since, just something i live with now, hurts like hell & having to crack my neck to release pressure (Yes its bad but it helps) tried all the works to help it but my new mattress has done wonders in supporting my whole back and a new memory-foam pillow. Most days dont need pain killers but some days nothing works and i got some pretty heavy pain relief. dont help either im 6 ft 3 and having to not smash my head on shit.
I use to have excruciating lower back pain (due to tension), most of it fixed was fixed by chrios. I came across a fella who did Dry Needle Treatment and the results are excellent. I use to also suffer from neck pain from a car accident many years ago and Dry Needle Treatment fixed it good and proper. So good are results that I can't have imagined myself ever suffering any pain.
I highly recommend Dry Needle Treatment.
Had back pain for years from my job. Tried heaps of different therapies but nothing seems to work. Only reason I even manage to get through my day is with a shit load of pain killers.
It's coming up on 3yrs now since a workplace incident turned my life upside down.
In that time i've been given every type of bar room diagnosis & guaranteed fix it cures from a wide variety of ppl.
It seems that either everybody has a bad back, or they atleast know someone who has!
Quite frankly...... i'm over it!
I know they mean well, but because bowen therapy from Dr Zeuss fixed their mum, then it must work for me too!
Or sleeping on a mattress made entirely from the juvenile feathers from the african racing pidgeon managed to repair a snapped spinal chord on dear old grand dad, then that must be what i need! Pfft!
There are a multitude of reasons for back pain. Some ppl have traumatic accidents which cause life long damage. Some ppl face the wrong way when they sneeze......... it doesn't mean that there is is a 'one sip cures all ills' kind of snake oil which will work on everybody!
I'm glad you have found some relief from physio.
It's not for everybody.
jeez i think i got off pretty lightly with my back injury compared to most of u guys!
when i was 18 i t-boned a car on my dirt bike at the best part of 100kph. i'd locked up the back wheel and slid into it crossed up, back wheel just clipped the front bar of this car and sent me into a mega hi-side into a hi speed commando roll down the road.
i cracked my T12 vertebrae and spent 3 months in various casts/back braces. about the only time i get pain from it is if im standing in the one spot for a long time. dunno why it rarely plays up, maybe me going against doctors orders and getting work as a labourer/concreter might have strengthened the back muscles a bit?
