First up, sorry for posting in the pub section. It's just i didn't know where to put this or if to post it up in this forum, but i figured i might as well - some people in this forum may know where to look with regards to the problems i'm having.
i recently bought a uc torana sunbird which has had a 173 (2850 blue holden inline 6) and 5spd fitted to it from a vh? i beleive commodore. it has been fitted to it for quite some time with the old owner driving it like that for prob 10 years or so. now since i've bought it, i was driving home from a mates place the other day and all the sudden when i was close to home the battery light came on, my fuel gauge and temp guage dropped to zero.
when i got home, i chucked the multimeter over the battery, and its sitting at 13.8 volts when running, which doesn't fluctuate when revved or anything, so seems to be charging A ok. i've been too busy to look since, and although i'm a mechanic by trade i'm not at all familiar with how these older vehicles are wired or of any common issues to look for. so i'm wondering if anyone could point me to what area to look for or any issues to check.
when i started it today, for a quick look it ran like a charm, no battery light until i gave it a quick rev to 4.5k - 5k or so after which it remained on until i turned the engine off and restarted it (and then once again no battery light until revved up till roughly 5k). the fuel gauge and temp gauge still stayed inactive which makes me think it may be a simple fault with instrument wiring causing these three issues?
this is really testing my memory, but a while ago i had an lx hatch that the gauges stopped working on. from memory someone told me there may be a resistor on the back of the instrument cluster somewhere thats burnt out? i never got around to looking for it cos i sold the car
worked v8 + supercharger + dogbox = panty moistening equipment.
4 banger turbos with bov's will just cry when they hear it, because they can never have it.
