Hi,
Not 100% sure this is the correct spot, but ill ask anyways... May be a stupid question.. But meh i need to know..
I have a old propane gas bottle which i want to use for compressed air, but it only has one 1/4 inch fitting.
I Want to get another 2 fittings welded on.. Can this be done? Whilst still keeping its strength etc..?
Its rated to 480psi atm.. But i only need it to be around 150-200psi...
Can it be done? And any ideas where i can get it done (around southern sydney would be more helpful..)
Thanks
Luke
id just go buy another tank to suite hit up the gas joints or an engineering mob as you can get custom tanks made up .. probably cheaper after u get someone who will modify it and then pressure test and so forth... probably abit safer lol a bit flying off at 200psi would hurt.
what exactly do u wanna use it for

Yep. Not worth the risk or hassle. I have seen stand alone pressure vessels for holding compressed air at Bunnings (so there will be more than that around) for not much money (<$100 I think).
if your know what your doing not hard you purge/pump the tank with welding gas ie inert gas argon cut or drill out larger hole weld on new fitting with a tig welder away you go as long as its welded properly there'd be no hassles of course pressure testing is needed but that's as easy as pumping full of air at required pressure and submersing or using soapy water around welded areas..
Number 1 tip is never cut or weld on bottle until you know that is has been purged properly water can be used to purge aswell if you can get it in there

Pics to come soon
Can I ask, why the hell do you want to run air tools out of the car?
If i need to i can use them Its wont be the main use of it. Just the capability if needed.
see a boilermaker if it's what you want. I also like having the ability to run tools from my car, but I just bought an 800W inverter so I can run power tools - charge the cordless batteries more than anything.
If you have air, you need hoses and all that other shit in the car as well man- I've just got the inverter and the drill battery charger in the boot.
I have all the hoses etc as i have a 240v compressor tank setup atm....
