TOUGH anti-hoon laws, which will give police and the courts greater power to clamp, impound and crush serial offenders’ cars, officially came into effect yesterday (31st October 2010).
Among the changes, courts have the power to crush a hoon’s car if the driver has committed another road offence in the past 12 months or two road offences in the past 10 years.
Courts can also impound a car for six months, instead of three, if the driver has committed one other road offence in the past 10 years.

So this is for South Australia, but I have to wonder.. When it says they 'have the power to crush a hoons car if the driver has committed another road offence in the past 12 months', do they mean one road offence + one 'hoon' offence = crushed car? Or does that mean the usual 3 strikes rule like the other states, or what?
it wont stop hoons and it wont reduce the road toll by much.
I would be interested to see how the government gets around the encumberance on the vehicle, are they then responsible for the repayments? I think not.
What next I wonder, crush phones because someone has been caught multiple times, it will never end.
As of right this minute, the roadtoll stands at 100, compared to 102 lastyear... In the bigger picture they haven't done anything.
id like to see a poll of who would pull over and who would keep goin knowing they'd be getin their cars crushed
Thats is bs.They crush your car if you have commited a road offence within the last 12 months?
That is ridiculous
Wouldn't it makes more sense to sell the car and use the money for drivers ed or something? =/
Exactly. Hello to yet another other limp-wristed traffic control scheme, like reducing speed limits, speed bumps in city streets, etc... no effect on road toll whatsoever, just some bureaucrats justifying their jobs and making it look like they are Doing Something.it wont stop hoons and it wont reduce the road toll by much.
Only seems like they're doing something to total morons, its about raking in the cash more then saving lives.
It's all about popularity for this government and nothing to do with saving lives cause they ain't very popular right now. The government has always thrown something out to the public everytime they're in the s..t and this time is no different. I personally think everyone worries too much about getting their cars crushed, there is no way someone who gets caught once or twice doing something minor is going to lose their car but if your dumb enough to keep being a tool on the road then you don't deserve a car and even when people do lose their cars you'll find that they only crush the worthless cars and not the ones they get a decent dollar for so it's no big loss in my books.
as well as those new laws, police in SA can charge you for hooning on private property and seize the vehicles used in the offence. so technically SA govt have banned paddock bashing. And ANY motorsport event held on private land... for example, drifting at malala raceway can now be seen as hooning and technically you can have your car towed away and yourself be sent to court... enter in a off street burnout comp you can run the risk of being done for hooning.
i think its there to stop wankers in suburbia doing skids in their sheds and driveways... but i think its a bit much. we have a club property for 4wding on farmland and technically going through the creek would be hooning as its slippery and you break traction lol.
