    Hey guys,

Looking for my first project car. Decided on the good ol' gemini, just wondering if the buick 3800 engine mod is legal because i have searched around and found a few oposing answers if its not what kinda conversion should i look for?

depends what state your in, your best bet is to speak to an engineer.

ive got two geminis myself and ive done a bit of research, i think theyre are better/easier conversions to be done.

Guys at work have a few Gemini's & they are fitting turbo'd 2.6litre Rodeo engines to them, & they are saying they are over the limit now on engine capacity, in regards to power to weight ratio
so basically I don't think they are legal with the 3.8 litre fitted.

as said by trevor you could fit a rodeo 2.6 litre engine(4ZE1), it bolts into the same mounts bolts up to a gemini gearbox 4 or 5 speed or you could fit the deo gearbox relativly easily, of course if you went the 2.6 you would have to sort out wiring for the EFI. or you could fit a rodeo 2.3 litre(4ZD1) which is carby fed bolts in the same as a 2.6. also from the Z series isuzu engines is the 4ZC1 from a piazza its a 2 litre and there is turbocharged model.

so theres quite a few options. if you want a 6 cylinder there are other options from a holden V6 such as a VG30(nissan) or a 1MZ-FE(toyota) both are V6s both with a 3 litre engine capacity which i would think would be easier to engineer.

i personally would fit one of the isuzu Z series engines decent power can had from them, you wont be dramaticly changing the weight of the vehicle(messing with suspension), it would look pretty standard done correctly(less attention from the police).

the rules differ for forced induction engines to naturally aspirated engines. as i said before consult an engineer before any work begins.
