It is alleged that Queensland Police officers ordered a 15 year old boy to deflate his pushbike's rear tyre as he had no helmet, and allegedly threaten to arrest if the order was not followed...

makes you wonder how some of these ####wits make it to become cops
I don't see a problem with making him deflate his tyres. If he wasn't going to ride it anyway (like he told the cops) then its no issue. Poor bubby had to walk 3km, boo hoo.

Agreed....bike users have rules to follow just like us.
I hope the officers just learn 1 thing from this...
Just give the idiot a fine..
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR RAW HORSEPOWER !!
Agree with above 2 posts. They would have drove off, and he would have jumped straight back on the bike. I know because i did the same thing when i was a kid.
Better he pushed the bike, than got a ticket for no helmet. A 15 yr old kid is not going to pay a helmet fine, all that will happen is that the tickets will wind up on a SPER list.....
Why should they give him a lift home for? That's why he has a push bike![]()
People are always carrying on "but they should have done more" You need to keep in mind that Police need to respond to situations and call outs in priority, and always anticipate the unexpected. How the hell do they respond to an arm robbery or a car jacking that's just around the corner when they have a 15 year old kid in the back seat, and a push bike in the boot?

he did wrong
he got punished
they did their job
end of story.
Yea, and all the bleeding heart civil liberties clowns are up in arms, coz the poor baby had to walk 3 kays home. Sorry, walking or cycling, what's the flipping difference? What, he might get set upon by a dropbear if he's on foot.
But you watch, this'll turn into a fiasco with the inevitable media/litigation/cop-bashing frenzy.
Ted: I don't like Ronald MacDonald. He skips.
Greta: Oh Dad, he's a clown.
Ted: He's a poof.
if i where the cop i would have ran up and pushed the kid off his bike, or drove up beside it and threw a stick through the front wheel. my god that would be funny!! LOL
Wats the issue used to happen here all the time. Good to see some old style policing bet the kid doesn't break the law again

Whats the big deal, happened to me as a kid; i was happy the cop was nice enough to let me off the fine.
I hardly ever wore a helmet on a bike, i dont think we should have to, but i always knew if i got hassled for it it was my own fault.
I hope this whinging prick gets his share of police attention every time he rides without his helmet now.
much smarter then giving a fine.
the walk home makes him think about what he did, and doesnt allow him to just cycle off.
also the police didnt "damage" the bike by taking the chain/wheel or whatever to stop him riding.
so all up its a win win.
kid learns a lesson, doesnt have to cough up money (he probably has to buy a helmet now?).
bring back this policing style (old one), it works better.
Police did the right thing. I know id rather push my bike home than get a fine, wearing a helmet is the law right or wrong so deal with it.
More cops should be like this actually doing something instead of being revenue rasiers.
More likely to die in a car then on pushbike, they should make us all wear helmets. Always hated that law. Still, the cop was just doing his duty... must have been bored though as in the CBD no one wears a helmet and the cops don't give a shit

Good work from them, should be more of it! It give me the shits my kids going out to ride everyday sensibly with helmets and 90% the other kids mostly older don't wear helmets and having to explain to my 4 yr old that he has to it is to protect him and it is the law and these other kids are breaking the law, and even when he is a big boy he has to wear a helmet.
This use to happen all the time in the town i grew up in . Heck i even got my push bike taking off me for a week by the local ####stable for not wearing a skid lid. Some one needs to harden these new age kids up. people need to take responsibility for the actions.

According to the ninemsn article, after the cops made him deflate his tyres, they drove to his house to tell his mother about it.
lol, i love it.
Serves him right, won't forget his helmet again in a hurry i bet.
now im not being rude but we have rolled into the modern age were you cant do stuff like that to kids anymore and back when the young respected the adults was because they would get a clip around the ear but now days you do that to a kid hes more than likely to thump **** outta you and i myself dont respect those who disrespect me not to metion my qoute those who critizie our generation forget who raised it. sorry if this has caused an upswet to anyone but its how i feel.Good old fashioned policing, should be more of it. A clip around the ear wouldn't have gone amiss either. This is how it used to be, back in the day when young people respected and had a healthy fear of adults

so hang on you want the modern age kids to harden up by wearing a helmet ???? mmm ok and yeah take responsibility for your own actions it should be up to the rider weather he or she chooses to wear a helmetSome one needs to harden these new age kids up. people need to take responsibility for the actions.

Not the best way to have dealt with the lad,I can see him rebelling more, who knows.Perfect oppertunity to give a warning to a first time offender and make him realise the danger at hand, instead they go on a power trip.
This to me balls down to trust, something this officer had little of.I wonder what other "abnormal" methods he carrys out, does it stop here?I would like to think so.
They have admitted the officers could and probably should have treated it differently.THEY WERE WRONG,if police admit that then you can take that to the bank.
I wonder if some of you fellas were pulled over for no seatbelt and had your tires deflated because the officer doesnt "TRUST"that you will wear it the whole time, how would you's feel.If it happened to any of our kids I think some of the responses would be a little different, especially seeing them walk in the door balling their eyes out. This could have been a 10 year old or less fellas or do these officers have an age limit to extort?
Ask yourself the question "would i rather have my tyre deflated or a fine". I personally would far rather have my tyre deflated, i'll just pump it up when i get back home simple. You seriously think walking a push bike home is bad LOL, try walking a motorbike home. when i was 15, i was riding up the footpath on my motorbike, the cops pulled over and told me to walk it. I used to walk my dirt bike about 2 km to get to the bike track.
Assault does nothing but harm, why would you suggest this?A clip around the ear will go amiss in my household as I have other measures that work just as well without causing harm or fear,if you like this approach then thats your perrogitive,as is my response.
All in all its just a'nother Brick in the Wall.
