saw this today and found it interesting
Learner drivers 'not fudging logbooks'
this is what slightly bemused me though... is it that they are two and a half more times likely to have a fatal crash or is it to do with the kind of cars they are driving that more of them die???Young drivers, aged between 17-24, are two-and-a-half-times more likely to be killed in a crash when compared to older, more-experienced drivers
Following your recent thread, I think you are a high risk for falling into this category (being 2.5 times more likely to have a fatal accident) as you admit you can't control your stock car.
I believe it has nothing to do with the vehicle make, model or engine capacity as a whole, it's all about the inexperience of the driver.
dont forget the weather conditions, and not driving to them (generally people havent had a full range of these skills on L's).
or keeping the vehicle in a condition that is safe and roadworthy (tyres, brakes, etc).
and dont forget the mentality of showing off to your mates, and driving when you know you cant control it, but act like a moron anyway.
we should be teaching driver education at school and it should be mandatory for new drivers to have hours and hours of training on a skid pan and it should cost 5000 dollars to get yr licence.then some of the ########s would maybe appreciate their licence and not view it as their rite to have one.and flat brimmed hats should be banned.
WTF is a log book?
I wouldn't say it has "nothing" to do with your vehicle make, model, engine, etc - What about just old cars in general that lack most if not all of the safety features of modern cars?
Kids hammering round in VR execs (even 4cyl cars are just dangerous if in a crash), no abs, not even a drivers air bag- you can't tell me that doesn't contribute to it.
But you're absolutely correct, the inexperience of the driver is a huge factor.

Please keep in mind not all P-Platers/Younger Drivers are hoons. Not all of them drive like ########s

too bad its these minority of "hoons" that stuff it up for the rest
i know people that have done like 2 hours, copy books and then get it. even heard of places that will give learners a book to copy, after a certain amount of lessons, its rediculous.
yet someone who does the right think gets hours knocked back as the pen may have not worked with the shiny paper (which they got rid of for plain paper)
You can make statistics say anything, I fudged my log book on my L's too.
So did I. 120 hours was just recommended, I had maybe 20. I walked in, they asked me how many I had. I said oh probably around 100-120 and that was that. They didnt even ask to see my log book, not that I had one.
Untill they bring in the German style of driver training where Mum and Dad are not allowed to train you and you must have all your hours supervised by a licensed instructor people will bullshit their hours.
lol, its not like 120hrs of dad teaching you his bad habits is worthwhile anyway.
OK seriously, wtf is a log book? If it's a record of the driving you do that you UPDATE YOURSELF, then the system has become WORSE not better.
Driver education that is signed off by the qualified instructors is what's needed.
Yeah it is, you just write down every time you drive the car and for how long.
LOL!!!! That's just ridiculous....
Yep, doesn't really prove anything does it.
I'd also just like to point out that maturity and attitude also go a VERY long way. And the teens of today based on my experiences are just whingers who think they're entitled to everything, have no respect for anyone or any rules/authority, and generally don't give a sh!t about anyone but themselves.
Everyone I still know from high school didn't have to have any formal training to get their L's or P's or their full licence. They simply had to study the road rules and pass a test. Not one of them has ever been in any form of serious crash or had any sort of licence suspension.
Yep you're right.
Too many people are too busy worrying about looking better then the next person and what they can gain from any given situation.
Gen Z? nah, Gen ####whit!
most of the yes. but not all of them.
seems they really need to harden up, and learn to work for it.
and yeah soop. its all about looks. not about how people can learn from something.
but on the gen y z thing,
it all starts with the parents attitudes. which then bleed through to the kids.
Every generation the parents and discipline get softer. Every generation the kids turn out more like ####whits.
I say foot the little bastards hard in the arse.
It's definitely different in QLD, then.
I know the majority of my mates have written in some fake hours, hell some have even copied out whole books.
I'm 25 minutes away from hitting my 120, all of which are honest and genuine. Feels good, and to add to that, there's a sense of achievement and accomplishment. "I have earned this." That on it's own gives you a respect for your licence, which would definitely deter me from driving like an idiot. If I've gone to so much effort to get this, why risk f*cking up over something stupid? To add to that, it also makes me see a licence as a PRIVILEGE, not a right as some people believe.
Need a part number? PM me.
Luke.
Frankly the fact you went through the effort of getting them legitimately, makes you a fool. It still doesn't make you a good driver.
illiterate AND a fraudster...what a bright future you have.
The changes in talk at the moment have friends/family etc banned from teaching driving and only recognised trainers teaching. Faster it comes int he better.
PS: trainers will be required to undergo much better testing to become a trainer, much like people who train truck drivers etc.

Stereotype. I just got my license and I did 140hrs legitmately. Im not saying im a 'good' driver' but atleast im more experienced on the road than others that have done 10hrs. What would you rather?
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
