    Default choosing a new phone.

hi all. recently my phone broke so i am in need of getting a new one..
it was a crap flip screen one of the first colour phones that came out but it lasted 7 or 8 years
i was paying over $30 a month on optus pre paid and figured for that price nowdays i could get a decent phone

after going to many phone shops the 3 i have narrowed it down to are
    iPhone4.
    Samsung Galaxy S.
    htc Desire HD.

if anybody has any of these phones and wants to tell me what they think be it + or - it would be much appreciated.

but atm im kinda leaning towards the htc desire hd.

    thanks =)

I second HTC Desire!!! Very fast phone to load things!

the only issue I notice with my HTC Desire is.. its Taking pics in daylight is very poor.. So much glare
and its screen is not strong.. So, buy a case or be very careful!!!

Also, the battery life on the HTC Desire is ok.. Mine lasts about 2days without needing to be charged.. but I use the "Live Wallpaper" so, no doubt that wont help
    ..

The way the phone organises it's Text message Inbox is very good!
Its a very clean & neat phone!
It has a vast amount of setting options on how to 'suit you' ..
And another i love about it.. You can have a PIN lock of the phone..and a "Diagram" unlock, (You create a square..circle.. triangle etc etc) or some random line thingy.. that will unlock the phone when you "draw" the current thing you made
Browsing websites is just as great! the text is very clear and easy to read.. And it shows all the pics, as a PC browser would,.. Use your finger to scroll up & down.. or have to fingers together and "open" to zoom in.. But thats on most phones nowdays I guess?
    ,

A strange thing I noticed tho, if the phone is turned on wile charging.. it takes more than 3-4hrs (Still not long) but if the phone is turned off and charging it normally takes about an Hour to fully charge.. I actually took my battery to Telstra and asked if it was shagged.. but apparently, it doing what it should lol

But IMO, It's a worthwhile phone tho Really good!

I recomend tho if you do consider the HTC Desire, browse some YouTube reviews and see what it can really do.. I think you'd like it
    Paintball.. It's not just a Sport.. It's a lifestyle!

Anything but the iPhone... I'd take a Nokia 3310 over an iPhone.

But, if you can live with the bulk of the Desire HD, get that... The original Desires are a sensational phone. Or, you can wait for the desire Z...

I have the Samsung i9000 and love it. Swype text FTW - everyone I know with an iphone is envious of my phone.

I have an Iphone, I will say people over-rate them, but they're pretty useful. But so is the Samsong Galaxy which my brother has.

But ofcourse i don't pay for any apps or anything for it, i jailbroke it.. They're not stealing more money outta me.

But my plan for $49 is $350 talk and txt, and 300 minutes 3 to 3. + 250mb downloads.

But with Iphone4 (I have 3GS) you can get $59 which is unlimited txting, 1gb internet( or 2gb i think) and $450 phone calls.

I know which one i would prefer if i could actually get it.

edit: And don't drop it, they break really easy. but that's the same with all touch screens anyway. Buy a screen protecter (like a fingerprint one) and also a hard shell cover to go around.

I've never dropped the two I had, only went swimming with the first one -.-
if you use email and Sinc it up, it's pretty good. The main thing i like about Iphone's is the way you text on them. Some Apps are pretty cool what people make though.

They're not the quickest, but they aren't that slow either. Internet is pretty good to use. You can put a lock on it, you can download apps which you have to make a pattern to unlock it aswell.

Phone probably lasts 2 days without charge, if you play on it all day it would only last the one day. but it won't run out on you. Aslong as you charge it every night, you'll be fine.

I can't say anything much about the other two as i haven't owned them, but people who don't have Iphones down them, and people that have them think they're good, then there's people who wish they had one which are the ones that make it overrated.

It's a good phone, but so are the selected above. What you need to work out is what you're mainly using it for (which doesn't seem like much from the recent phone you had).

Lots more features doesn't mean better.

id go for the HTC or samsung, iphone is way too over rated for what it is imo.
i had a HTC before i got my current phone (LG, upgraded when i went on to a plan) i miss the HTC features and reliability, but the LG is still a good phone aswell

FYI at the moment, you can get the HTC Desire HD on Vodafone for free on a 24 month contract (some plans). I chose the $99 unlimited EVERYTHING (national calls to any number, sms, mms, voice mail, 1300 and 1800 number) plan + 3Gb data. For the life of the contract I get 10% off and I also get the first three months completely free.

Anyone that says there's a better phone out there than the HTC Desire HD at the moment is kidding themselves or they're just un-informed. It makes the iPhone 4 pale to insignificance.

haha im really glad that ppl have the same opinions that i do..
i went to many phone shops and played with all phones (played with not actually knowing what i was doing)
i never wanted an iphone and will never get one i wanted a galaxy s until today when i found out about the htc.

i went to crazy johns and whilst looking at the htc i asked about iphone4
the guy laughed took the plastic one off the wall dropped it on the ground and then trod on it so that pretty much sums that up.

the plan i was going to go for was vodaphone $59 a month unlimited calls and txt with $65 of credit to call 1300 and 1800 numbers 2gb of data.
i was a bit hesitant about vodaphone because i dont know anybody with them or what their coverage was so i bought a $2 sim and put it in my standard phone then walked around the house etc and the reception was better than optus.

so be it tomorrow i get the htc

THANKS FOR BACKING ME UP EVERYBODY.

I bought the Google phone, the Nexus One. Manufactured by HTC, also known as the HTC Passion. ####ing awesome phone, not a single thing I don't like about it Hard to get in Australia though, and apparently the Nexus Two is not too far away. Nevertheless, awesome

I love the iPhones, Iv compared all the new touch phones, but what i love is that because the iphone is so large, there are just endless amounts of apps & support for them, as they say theres a app for that. 720P HD Video Recording, the Retina display, best you can get for a phone. And i just love being able to just plug it in, iTunes pops up and every just syncs, photos, music, calendars, address book. But then the only thing is you drop it on the road etc, it will smash.
Dont worry about these antenna issues, they are non existent her in AUS, seems to be a US problem and there networks.
And no, just cause im a apple tech, im not selling it. i hate phones lol, they consume to much of our lives lol, and love people that come in and say i need my phone i cant live with out it.

Ya wont be dissapointed with the desire hd my misses has one and loves it and I can even use it to play the games so if I can find the games they must be easy to use haha the only thing with hers is the battery is dead every night but she has everything on and uses it flat out at work so ya gotta expect that.

To be fair Edals, app support is almost irrelevant now. Android has about half the number of apps as the iPhone does; but, you have to consider that for every one original app on the iPhone, there are 30 slight variations of it. Android allows you to install apps that have not been screened by Apple if you so choose. Potentially much more capable. Apple are just tightasses when it comes to what you can do with their devices

edals. if you say large as in size wise.. the htc is larger with a 4.3" screen alse if you mean storage size the htc has expandable memory which is also larger than the iphone
the htc also has 720p hd recording
as well as an 8mp camera
yes the iphone4 screen is better no doubting that
htc is fully customizable in every way
the antenna i didnt even know they had problems (even though they are fixed now)
also the plug and play of it is what i dont like. i have had ipods for years and i still dont understand itunes *yells out to little brother or girlfriend for help*
htc does not have a forward facing camera for video calls.

and as said y stressball andriod 2.2 (soon to be 2.3) has an app to cover everything also.. not that i know how to get or use them lol

The old argument the Apple fanbois have that the screen on the iPhone 4 is "better" is actually a stupid argument. It has the most pixels, so many in fact that the human eye can't even tell the difference. Most pixels doesn't automatically equal "better". My gf, one of my mates and his finance and a girl at work ALL have an iPhone 4. Put side by side with the Desire HD, even they concede the iPhone 4 isn't as good. It's smaller and less functional, plus the phone still relies on a physical home button. The entire front surface of the Desire HD is smooth and touch sensitive. The HOME, MENU, BACK & SEARCH buttons are all touch sensitive. The only 2 physical buttons are on the side (volume) and top (power).

The biggest negatives of the Desire HD (and I concede that EVERYTHING has negatives) are:

Battery life - not great but with a setup for charging at home, home office, car and work office, not a huge factor for me.
Voice dialing - doesn't exist natively but there is are apps for it.
Speaker - not as powerful as most other phones and there's only one.

But cool things like if it rings and you pick it up, the ringer fades to nothing. Flip it over and it goes to VM or busy signal. Great features for meetings and so simple.
Automatically sets the loudest ring tone when in pocket or hand bag.

Then being able to customise the Widgets, Shortcuts, Apps and basically how every feature works and interacts puts it in a class of its own.

not forgetting htc 768mb of ram compared to ipnone4 and galaxy s 512mb.

    htc also divx player
