Hi, love these forums and always come to have a browse and always answers my questions with my commodore, while i havent had to ask anything about my car (yet) thought id ask you guys as i know there are a few p platers that reside in victoria here with our beloved commysA while back i got a speeding fine leaving me with 3 demerit points out of a possible 5. I was told by the police officer and by many other people that my points would reset back to 5 upon transitioning from the Red P plate license to the Green P plate license. I have had greens for a month now and according to vicroads i still have 3 demerit points against my license. So are they supposed to reset upon transition or 12 months after offence date. To confirm this is in victoria, rules in other states are obviously different. Hope this is in the correct forum too. =]
Thanks!!!!
They probably reset when you get off your P's entirely.
what happens with p plates is you can lose 5 points in 12 months but 12 points in 3 years. it doesnt really 'reset' at all.
say you lose 3 points on 01/01/2010, which means you have 2 points until 01/01/2011 but 9 points until 01/01/2013.
then you lose another 1 point on 01/12/2010, which means you have 1 point until 01/01/2011 and 8 points until 01/01/2013 (date of first offence).
when the date 01/01/2011 rolls over, you will have 4 points until 01/12/2011 and 8 points until 01/01/2013.
i think this is right. for vic p's.
only difference between this and full licence is you can only accumulate 5 points in a year, where on a full you can do up to 12.
Hey mate thanks for the reply, so in effect one year from the date of the offence when i lost the 3 points, I will basically go back to having 5 points left rather then only 2 at the moment. So at the moment I have 2 points left until 1 year after (date of offence), then after that i will have 5 again.
