Default The JC RC Car thread

Hey guys im looking at buying a petrol rc car. But i don't know much at all about them and how to service and maintian them etc, i'm wondering if it's easy to learn and do or if you need to know some things to keep them going and to not break them. I think there was a thread on here before but i can't find it
Advice and opinions would be great, cheers

Only advice I can think of is to tighten all screws, bolts and nuts regularly. They always end up vibrating lose and falling out.

Use all the fuel in it till its empty every time or empty it, I don't know why but your not meant to leave fuel in the fuel container.

If you arent using it for a long time there is something you are put in the cylinder, not sure what it is, I think some kind of oil?

I don't own one myself but my bro does, its a 2 speed capable of 60kmph and out of service at the moment cos its missing about 5-6 screws from not checking them often enough.

Yep they chew tyres, motors, and everything else.Had a mate who used to race em and it cost him close to $15k for 2 years of racing. He has built himself a corolla now to do track days and is in front.if you just want to muck around buy a Ebay cheapie and when it breaks ditch it.Can become very addictive and expensive

The reason not to leave fuel in the tanks is because it goes off then it is shit

When you buy a litre of fuel you should you it all or keep it in the fridge otherwise the oil will separate then wen u try and use it your car will run like shit or not at all

I have 5 nitro rc cars ATM

But they are all broken when I crash them or break a belt or drive shaft I just buy a new one it's easier but way more expensive

The best advice I can give you is to buy an off roader unless you have a smooth gravel free environment for and on road/ race car little rocks kill them pretty quick

I was into this hobby for many years....cars/trucks and helicopters...spent a bloody fortune
For the price your looking at ittl be a nitro rc and not petrol.
Personally ...i got sick of the endless tuning you need to do on a nitro rc as they use castor oil(and cooling head) in the fuel to help keep them cool.
Stay away from the cheap nasties on ebay...they simply arnt made to take even mild punishment.
Brands like traxxas/hpi/lossi etc are the way to go.

I got my rocks off on a hpi baja 1/5 scale petrol rc....not cheap tho.
But just the best fun you can have...40 mins run time per tank on unleaded and virtually no tuning to be done.

Off road generally will give you more thrills...unless you want to join a club for racing

The one in auction below are pretty damn good altho you will need a radio/servos etc.

well there is a track about 10 minutes from my house that they race on. I was just thinking the road lol. i have a pretty qiuet street. It looks like ill be looking at buggies instead of sedans and utes and stuff then. With the one in that link what else needs to be bought and how expensive are they to maintain? And whats a servo? I have absoloutly no idea. Also you said nitro ones aren't the way to go?

I have one of these, awesome fun.

Have heaps of spares to go with it including another shell since the first one is banged up quite a bit. Plus have some servos and chassis parts as well as you always need them.
Is great fun, i only use it for shits and giggles every now and then.

Yeah mate a buggie is the way to go it is illegal to use them on the street but I still did it

If you get a buggy try not to land it in a puddle that's how I killed mine

When get on clean it with mentholated spirits in a spray bote and a blower connection on your compressor

Good stuff....The 1 in link is a kit....a good way to get into it as when it breaks(and it will) youll know how to fix it.
You will require 2 servos...2 small devices that control your throttle and steering..
Maintanance cost pretty much comes down to how much you use it and how hard you drive it.

There is also a RTR (READY TO RUN) Version of this....have a good search on ebay and gumtree for a good secondhand 1.
If you can score 1 local and see it running ,,ive picked up a few bargains this way.

If your going to get into this great hobby i can highly suggest you join a rc online forum.
Get heaps of advice and people who can keep you up and running.

i got stuff from here though no pertrol r/c cars... although i got spare parts for free for the stuff i had all i did was email them and they sent me 2 sets of spare gears for free cause id stripped one set in about a week... cheap though so it might not last but would be a good beginner car
i have one that i bought in aus and unfortunately my parents bought it for me so its not an offroader although i have managed to flog it a bit and have pretty much destroyed the body lol
what i found the worst were the engine mount screws which when the car bottoms out are the first thing to get worn which is a pain as every 5 mins you have to move the engine to fix something lol

Depending on how much you want to spend you could also look at a brushless electric with a LiPo battery. You don't need petrol to go fast, I can assure you of that.
