No it's not. It's one of the most common vehicles on the road and based on that alone would be one of the more expensive vehicles (statistically) for insurance companies to insure. Combined with your age, driving experience, previous claims, etc etc it's an unacceptable risk for them to insure you for that car.

    It's not rocket science.

    Depends if he's 16 or 26 :P.

If you're 16, I can understand it. Go buy a VS.

if your father wants to buy you your own ve ute then you will need a brand new insurance policy for that anyway, AMI might not do it but there would surely be others who will.

I understand why they would say that because I'm only 15 but I hold a restricted license (like Aussie provisional) as to previous claims I have never made a claim.
I knew it was gonna cost me a bit to insure it for me to drive but I did not think that they would out right refuse to insure me ohwell...
In reply to Soop saying "Go buy a VS" my father would like me to get a VE ute because It has all of the stability control and what not and I will not have the responsibility of driving around all the drunks...
Guess I'm Stuck driving the Toyota Cavalier with its terrible automatic gear box and the so called traction control that Tells you that you have low traction on the dash board and doesn't actually do anything...
What the hell is that supposed to mean?

    Just go with another insurer.

If you were an insurance company, would you offer insurance to a 15 year old with basically no driving experience in a SV6?

I'm not saying that VS Drivers are drunks or something that was just referring to the fact that he wants me to buy a ute
Also the VS does not have any stability control which is the main reason why he was me to go with a VE.

You know how many times I've had a car randomly slide out from under me, without me being a dick to begin with..... Once.

Stability control just makes people feel safe.
I wouldn't let it be the SOLE reason you purchase a car.

Yes but I would charge them shitloads for the privilege to do so. I however would not insure them to drive a V8

So you don't have any car control skills?

    Is this thread a joke?

I actually Prefer the look of a VK over the look of a VS. The VS would have to be my least favourite commodore.
If you guys are trying to imply that I am a Hoon and I drive in an erratic manner (doing burnouts, exceeding speed limits ect) you are incorrect because I am a responsible driving and I do not exceed the speed limit.

I wasn't implying that at all. I was saying that a 15, of course you can't control a car.

and how would you be able to say this because you have never ever seen me drive. Maybe I'm OK at driving you have never seen me driving and therefore it is incorrect to say that I cannot control a car just because of my age. Age does not designate your skill to drive a car I have seen alot of drivers older than me that can't drive for shit, just because someone is older than me does not mean that they have to be a better driver than me. But your entitled to your own opinion, so be it.

Lol, I've been driving for 5 years and I don't think I've got mad skills...

But, If you're trying to get the car insured, wouldn't the cost be kind of prohibitive at 15? I wouldn't have asked my old man to pay that when I was 15

Getting a car with stability control will just give you a false confidence and you'll expect the same thing from other cars without understanding what the difference is until something goes wrong.

You're better off learning in an older car which feels more 'raw', no electronic assistance of any kind (except power steering... maybe) and learning what it feels like to be 100% in control.

I learned in a manual VN V6 wagon, then had to drive a second hand JE Camira with bald tyres. I learned VERY quickly how to drive safely!
