    Default DIY Garage

    Hey guys,

There has recently been a place in London open called Pit Start garage, basically its a place that you can go to and rent hoists, bays and tools to do work on your car.

    Pit Start - Self Service Garage - 020 8827 1919

What are you thoughts? Would this be a viable business venture in Australia? would you use one?

That idea has been around for many years. People have tried but there's just not high enough demand for it with most cars these days being new and under warranty.

Some members on here have attempted to get similar ventures up and running, but failed due to lack of interest.

There used to be a place like that in Moorabbin here in Victoria some years ago . They had a hoist , big workshop and a spray booth with oven .

It would be great, however I dont think there'd be a huge interest, prices would be high as to rent, and good luck finding an insurer!

Yeah, Insurance would be through the roof, which would reflect the prices.

Its a good idea, and for 10 pound an hour with tools it is a good price, But I dont think people would use it, its a lot easier to walk downstairs in the morning, put the car on ramps, drop the oil, fill it and be on your way, without having to drive out of the way to a work shop and pay just to use a hoist..

After the cost of oil, filter, driving there and back, rent of the shop and all that, it would end up a tad shy of getting a mechanic to do it for you...

depends if your doing a service on your car or just an oil change.

would save heaps of time ####ing around under the car if you were doing an auto trans service, or pulling all the wheels off.

I would loooove that. What i want for christmas is a car hoist, or a pit.

If say in terms of insurance, well i mean you are doing the work on your car right? If you hurt yourself its your own bloody fault! Just as if you hurt yourself at home doing the same thing..

Maybe even have a mechanic on standby, just to help or give a few pointers if something is being awkward. Man that would be ideal.

but yeah, there wouldnt be enough interest here i guess.
