One of my clients died recently and left two young children orphans. She was homeless at the time of her death, waiting list for emergency housing is 2 years - hillarious hey? She had health issues due to her situation, and before anyone asks she wasn't just some down and out drug addict or similar. A chain of unpreventable circumstances saw her left without a roof over her head living rough with 2 young ones.

Do any of you bleeding hearts over illegal immigrants feel sorry for her? She was born here but couldn't get help. A mere fraction of the money sunk into feeding and housing these queue jumpers could have helped her and she may still be alive today. Do you all seriously think it fair that citizens die because they cannot access basic amenities while free loaders from other Countries get handouts?

If you spent a week with me, I guarantee you too would start being bitter at the Government wasting OUR tax dollars on scabs instead of looking after our own.

Sash, I couldn't agree more with how the situation is for Australian homelessness it is a downright joke. That said, if less was spent on foreign aid (Gillard and Combet just hadned out 600 million for this global warming crap, 500 million for indonesian schools etc) then we could accomodate the homeless. Seeing children and women die in these accidents trying to get to what we have here is tragic...the men however, I have no sorrow for, they should stand up and fight for their own country as our men have done for ours.

Oh, I am the same, as far as I am concerned immigration should stop until we fix our own backyard. However, it is well known many of the women and children are forced onto these boats used as a way for the men to get into the country. Many of them do not have a choice.

What pisses me off most about most of these asylum seekers is when they return to their country of origin 3 or 4 times to visit family. Now if it is safe for them to return for leisure, surely it is safe to return for good.

It's very easy for us to feel resentment towards boat people/illegal immigrants/queue jumpers - whatever you want to call them. I suspect that there will be a fair split within the Australian community about these people's fate today - some will mourn, some will rejoice.

I'm no bleeding heart for them - in fact, I'm angry at the number of them arriving too. But my anger isn't directed so much at them as it is at the Government for being so utterly weak and ineffective in dealing with the problem, and the scum who deal in human cargoes for profit. I seriously doubt that any of these people would have the slightest idea what their arrival in this country means in relation to Australians struggling to put a roof over their heads or seeking financial assistance to survive. I suspect they are told by the people smugglers that Australia is a great big open, rich land that will welcome them with open arms and feed, house and clothe them until they can establish themselves. Yes, they come from drop-kick parts of the earth that should be bulldozed bare and left to rot, and their immediate value to our economy is suspect, but they would be very ignorant of the real situation and acting solely on lies and deception and sheer desparation.
