So i got a bit of a dilema, i am currently selling my car and live in queensland..the person interested lives in victoria. My question is can the rego be transferred into there name or does the Queensland rego need to be cancled and then re rego it in victoria. If so do i still need to produce a Queensland RWC?
And on another issue, the plan is to drive my car to victoria..sell it and pick up the new car which is also in victoria...does the seller of that car have to do the same, cancel rego and i renew in QLD and does he have to supply me with a "pink slip"? and if so can that pink slip be used to transfer/ re rego the car in Qld or do i have to get a Qld RWC?
Bit of a headache and any help is appreciated as i couldnt find much from google.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but a RWC acquired in a certain state is only valid in that state. So a Queensland RWC would not be valid in vic if i'm not wrong.

Grennan, im hopping that is the case..I know that if transferring regos in same state it is illegal to sell a car without a RWC but unsure on different states and especially Vic as they have to go over the pits as far as i know?

The simplest way to swap these cars over is for each vehicle to retain its current rego until it arrives in the new state. The existing rego is then cancelled at the new state's registry and new registration for that state is issued. Each state will not give you a credit for unused rego from the previous state, so you will have to pay for full registration for whatever period your state allows. The other thing to consider is the compulsory third party insurance, which also can only be issued for the state in which the car will be housed.
As to inspection processes prior to re-registration, that is up to the state in which the car will be housed. Each state is different. As stated above, Victoria may require a mechanical examination prior to the rego being issued, whereas Queensland might not.
Vic just requires a simple RWC prior to rego.
Occasionally they pull you up for an inspection, however its usually just a good ol tyre kick or if the car has needed a lot of work/engineering.
