Maybe they should have set up on the Monash, could have just walked along breath testing everybody on the Monash at that time of the day....

Good idea to catch idiots that drink drive by targeting a highway as there obviously isn't anywhere to turn down to avoid being tested (and good idea to have an afternoon one rather than the late night/early morning ones everybody knows of) but poorly executed

I think whoever came up with that location (on both sides of the freeway at once) must be the same 'genius' who set up the divvy van RBT location on High Street Road just around from a blind corner a couple of weeks ago

They were supposed to be there untill 8pm.

    Seriously.

They did it to net as many fish as possible, how is that not scrounging for cash?
All they managed to do was hold thousands of people up for 2hrs to achieve what?

I'll be it didn't save ONE life.
Probably made a few grand though.

People in Melbourne expect to be held up on their way home from work, otherwise why would they take the Monash 'Carpark' route 5 times a week

What, so that makes it alright to block it off to breath test people?

Congestion is accepted. A few douche bags standing in the middle of the road isn't.

Now that is utter revenue raising...you could do 150+ along that road without an issue. Sadly, keeping limits low, not enforcing bad driving such as failing to keep left etc is less important than catching someone at .051.

Well the Liberal Party did say they would increase police presence so today has certainly proved that

Just wondering why the Herald-Sun hasn't run stories like that when the police set up on the Eastern Freeway at peak hour

Umm, wont they run a story tomorrow if anything? Not sure thye would do a special print for a booze bus setup lol. That said, why havent channel 7/9/10 abc run the story in their news breaks? What about the Age etc? Not sure what your point is?

I did find this though, funnily enough on herald Sun website.

Sorry, I meant why the sudden interest by the Herald-Sun in gridlock when the police have done it numerous times on the Eastern Freeway with nary a word from the Herald Sun in the past

Perhaps one of their reporters or the editor was late home and his wife didn't reheat his dinner ?

First time Ive heard anyone claim picking up drunk drivers was a cash raising issue idea, Im sure the government rakes more in just letting the traffic flow and letting the idiots get photos taken of themselves.

Friday afternoon, fair bet there were some sloshed up drivers in there.

Perhaps they didnt get one drunk?, so the exericise is a waste of time? Hardly, it reinforcse the idea to people that they could be breathtested anytime, not just in the late hours of friday and saturday night.

But we shouldnt have random tests when the traffic is busy because some one get home late, its better than not getting home at all. More than anything the potential for carnage on the freeway is there if just one intoxicated person stuffs up and causes a big pile up at speed, well done to the police for doing what many see as unpopular

either way you end up with gridlock.
gridlock from a breath testing exercise is much more preferable to gridlock caused by a traffic accident

How many times last year was there gridlock due to a drunk driver?

Everyone thinks theres a problem because the govt makes out like they're trying to fix one.
Its easier to fix a problem thats barely there then it is to fix one that actually exists.

I reckon I can drive better drunk than a heap of people who are sober. Used to know this old bastard who was pissed all the time driving his old Merc around, not a scratch on the thing though

Cops are run like a business these days. They want revenue

Note that I don't support drink driving though and I won't drive plastered.

I don't honestly see how it could be called revenue raising? Only those drink driving are liable to pay any fine and if they were raising any significant amount of 'revenue' then that would suggest that there is a drink driving problem on that stretch of road and such measures may have been warranted.
