As far as I know female cats are incapable of doing this, they just squat and the urine goes straight down. Also females will usually dig a hole to urinate and then cover it up, males unless desexed very young will spray.

If in doubt which sex your animal is, just use the "two-finger method" (not my idea - as suggested to me by a vet with a similarly warped sense of humour).

Two fingers in, it's a female. One finger in, the other touching something fuzzy, it's a male. Too easy!


But if you're in the habit of chewing your nails just make sure you put on a latex glove first.
