VY SS Ute, purely on the fact i think they are a lot tougher looking.
I have no experience with either, but assuming the VY is a newer you would probably get less km's and a newer and improved car?

if you go a series 2 vy you get a few extra goodies at not extra cost ie ( strut brace as standard and vy series 2 tail lights which look tones better than the series 1 ( which are the same as the vu's). ive had the pleasure of owning a vx ss sedan and now own a vy ss ute and the is no contest. the vy just seems to feel a whole lot stonger through the entire drive train. jobs done.

If you like the vy's interior then go the vy.
The interior is the bit your going to be looking at the whole time your driving.

    VY are soo much tougher.
I personally don't like the interior in VU's. Your choice but I'd choose the VY

if your looking at 20 grand, you could find a VZ for that price.
i own a VU, and the interior is pretty average compared to the vy/z
i paid 13000 for my vu ss and there was not a good vy with in 5 grand of that at the time, so that was the biggest decider for me.

but as always, compare apples to apples, and the vy is better
