Is it just me or?

Hey Guys,

Is it just me or does it seem like every day there is more and more people wanting to speed? I swear to me the number keeps increasing and a lot of them are full open license drivers. Sure I agree that each state government needs to have the Speed limit increased along major hwys etc, but some people find it hard to sit on 80ks in a dual lane high way for about 1.5ks. It always seems everyone is racing to be out in front... Its just stupid and a waste of fuel. In the end you normally always catch up with them at the next set of traffic lights, end of the street or round a about.

Opinions are welcome on this subject.

You would have loved our roads >30 years ago, I did. There's a lot more people around now. A burnout wasn't anything serious and were done in front of police for eg on New Years Eve without consequence.. People could do things without ####ing off too many other people. Now anything you do ####es off a bunch of people. Might have to follow Soop to Tassie!

i agree with ya mate honestly i do speed quite abit but i do so because i am SO SO FED up with people not learning what the right hand lane is for ( over taking for the people who need it pointed out ) i think honestly nearly everything on the roads boils down to frustration . but yea every one wants to get ahead and thats why i think its because people are sick of being stuck behined people or non flowing traffic i know i am

Not sure if you're replying to me but if you are.. I don't speed, haven't had a traffic offense since 1984. I will happily fall back in the left lane to let angry people as far away from me as possible. If you get frustrated on the road and let it get to you, you probably shouldn't drive. Not everyone should cook.

I earn a bit more then a pizza boy Jecs, Don't think a pizza boy could earn $419 in 15 and a half hours (over 2 days). I can understand people wanting to speed to get in front of idiots who want to sit 20k's under the limit, but these people are flying past doing an easy 20 - 30k's over the limit. Always happens when the cops aren't around. Not as many people around back then, made all the rules so much more relaxed and enjoyable.

People get so damn angry these days over the most trivial and pointless of issues. Save that anger and aggression for something that really matters, not some knob driving in a manner you dont approve of. Seriously, how much time do you really think you are going to save by speeding? I'd rather keep my cash in my wallet (fines) and my conscience clear (if I kill someone by speeding). Ok, I'm no preacher.... I dont sit on 79 in an 80 zone, but seriously.... getting all hot and bothered over some nuffy not doing right by you on the road just isnt worth it. One day you'll #### up and lose your temper, causing something to happen that you'll regret. Just chill.

i'm very guilty of this. the time i spend on the highway to get to work and come home is seldom in peak traffic. so hitting 160 in a 100 zone. once it rains, i'll just cruise at 80

Cars are getting faster, speeds are getting lower...bit of a problem me thinks.

That said, I find there is nothing more fun then smashing big durkah durkah v8 from the lights in a quick speed limit run. I also just like going fast, for me there is no reason to speed except that driving fast is fun. I try not to do it in traffic, but it is hard when people sit below limits CAUSING traffic jams. If you are going slow, sure it is not illegal to be in the right lane (in some cases), but show some courtesy to those who are happy to go fast and move across, it takes no effort, it will not slow down your trip, it will however let me go past your slow arse

imagine if all cars had that system in the hondas, with the eco driving thing, with the red being your flooring/hooning and when it hits a point it goes into limp home mode or a restricted mode which makes accelerating slower for a bit, would stop all those "hot headed workers" from stuffing it up for everyone

I haven't got a problem with people smashing the slower and less powerful cars at the lights. I do it all the time myself, but i only do it to the speed limit. Then merge over if I'm in the right hand lane. I do worry about people speeding especially when you see a #### head coming around a bend at about 120ks in a 90 zone and see this 2 left wheels coming over into your lane without him knowing. So yeah that does worry me a little bit because I don't want to be taken out by some #### head who thinks he is king #### to speed.

I'll speed sometimes becuase i like going fast. Not in streets or school zones, but out on a dual carriage way when its pretty quiet i might go a km or three over the limit. Not around blind corners or anything silly.

getting 2 cars ahead gets you to the front for the next set of lights... then you catch the next group of cars and do it all again untill you get to the front of that pack. travel across sydney and you can easily make 10 mins on a journey just by taking to your car to 3500rpm in every gear till your at the speed limit and then overtake everyone you can before the next set of traffic lights. no speeding just making sure your doing the speed limit for as long as possible
if you like being patient why arent you driving a prius and spend the whole time between lights just trying to get to the speed limit... and yes when i do overtake i will floor it just to tell you your a d*ck

Same here mate.... and everyone does. I set the cruise control to 112 and happily drive past radar with no issues, but I dont think this is the "speeding" we are talking about. Even 5-10km over the speed limit to me isnt 'speeding' unless you are driving in a 40 or 50 zone (which I stick to because there's a valid reason you need to be driving that slow), but it's these ####ers who drive 80+ in a 50 zone (happens on my street all the time) and I always wonder how the hell they will stop if a car (or kid!) pops out suddenly from a driveway. I couldnt imagine anything worse than taking the life of a child . Like I said, I'm no angel.... I think its fair to say that I rarely stick to UNDER the speed limit on 60 or 80 roads... always 1 or 2 k's over. But to me thats ok... 1 or 2 k's doesnt mean I'm reckless.

I guess it's all relative to % of speed.... is 10% the limit to most folk? 10k's over at 110 is pushng it, as it 4 k's over at 40. I know radar has a lower tolerance, but I'm not talking about that. What do people consider 'safe' speeding?

the worst time i see of these people hooning it between lights/stupid overtaking is during going to work/going home from work times.
yes speed limits need to be raised

i dont care if people want to speed out on the open road. the street i live on was lowered from 60 to 50, and people do 60 because its safe.
there is a time and a place where speeding is no problem, and is safe.

however its the morons that speed in the city, to get 1-2 cars ahead and slam on the brakes that are "stuffing up" the whole flow of traffic
in a built up area like the city even going up to the "speed limit" is dangerous because of the traffic.
and its these idiots in the city i can not stand

I'd rather people giving it a bit from each set of lights over the numpties who spend the whole green light just moving out of the intersection allowing 1 car though a set of lights. They are the ones stuffing up the flow of traffic.
