i have voted auto cause i hate hill starts in manuals not that i cant do them.
with the auto if you like changing gears just use it like a manual i do sometimes and it works fine just dont go crazy and leave it in a low gear for long periods.

hehehe, yeah, thats a good thing with auto.

but ill go manual. nothing better then dropping the clutch, feathering it and playing around with revs in between gear changes. slamming second, third.. fourth.. good fun. hill starts and the occassional stall that sneaks up on you when you least expect it isn't that fun. but hey.. shit happens.

    manual all the way

First vote for manual. Love the 5 speed in my series 1 VTSS and will (hopefully) never own an auto ever again, heh heh. Great for decelerating down hills and around bends, especially when it's wet

I picked manual for a number of reasons

    - Control
    - Engine braking
    - Better Fuel Economy and less brake wear
    - Cheaper (in most cases) to repair
    - Great in anything with under 300hp for that extra pull
    - Last but not least good old fashioned fun.

I think hillstarts and gear changes in traffic become second nature after awhile BUT there's nothing worse than trying to open a drink, have a feed, indicate and downshift all at the same time

In that department Auto wins hands down

    Cheers

I'm too stupid to use a manual..............

nah...just like being lazy and auto's are good in 4wd's for hill climbing etc. thats why I like them.

I've managed to destoy just as many manuals as I have auto's......wonder why???

I'm another who has always had auto holdens so of course I'll be picking Auto. I mean how many of you manual drivers can eat an entire quarterpounder meal while talking on the phone and driving through the city? lol..

Autos have their good points, particularly if you do a lot of stop/start driving in traffic etc. I learned to drive in a manual and regularly drive 4wds out bush for work so I prefer a 5 speed. I think a performance oriented auto would be interesting though.

hmm i cant decide, had a shit load more manuals than autos, but when you drive trucks and stuff all day it is nice to have a break from gearchanging. when we brought the vr i wanted an auto havent had one for years and love it{apart from having to spend $1200 getting it done up,because i dont touch auto's}.my v8 hilux is a manual but i wouldnt mind putting a turbo 700 conversion in it.............

I've had auto, but in a BIG horsepower situation were I couldnt find a clutch suitable without robbing a bank. So, I voted manual!

My VL wagon is a 5 spder! Does some hell breaking manouvers with the heal and toe ! Oh, and if I ever get a flat battery, well, I can roll start it ! ( it also drags off our freinds auto vs ! )

Manuals are great fun to drive, but for me it's not really practical. Mainly because of the type of driving I do to and from work each day. Besides that, the gear ratios in the Commodore auto box are pretty useful, unlike an auto Falcon for example

Well I went Manual, I love the control and extra grunt.. Also with a lot of practice I don't need more hands.. I can do pretty much anything I have ever done with a manual....

    Cheers,

    Robbie
