Rumour has it that South Australia will have a state wide curfew for Alcohol Sales from 4am - 7am
What is this world coming too!?
Based on what? Hearsay? Somehow I doubt a 7pm curfew would be in the cards. Maybe later.
Edit: or I could read it properly, lol. Meh, if you're out buying grog at 5am, you're doin it wrong.

between 4AM and 7Am,the ban will be in place if it passes parliment.
Alcohol ban will secure SA's 'nanny state' reputation, says Isobel Redmond | Adelaide Now
SA the backward state??
who the hell wants too drink between those hours anyway?
Far too many, actually. I used to have a second job which saw me working outside a local Leagues Club on Friday and Saturday nights, until 4am. On busy nights, sometimes 5 am. The number of drunks that staggered around at that hour was astonishing. Some unbeleivable street fights broke out and the cops were often flat out dealing with the results.
Admittedly, the hours of the proposed curfew are pretty ordinary and won't have much effect on such problems, compared to other time slots. Might have more effect if it started at 2am, rather than 4am, but we all know how weak pollies can be when facing strong pressure groups and the Liquor Industry is pretty strong.
YAY! another case of the government telling us we need our nappies changed
p.s. if you have ever travelled overseas, you will know that looking for a bar at 5am is perfectly normal. when you are that wired from a flight, aint no way you are getting to sleep. only one thing for it![]()

Maybe we wouldn't have our nappies changed if we could handle our booze. The amount of brawling, outright violence and serious injuries I observed during the nine years that I worked those hours made me wonder why anybody would want to be out at that time of night. Even ordinary people who were dead sober were accosted and assaulted by some of the dregs that poured out of that club. Australia has a cultural problem with alcohol consumption and the problem isn't getting any better. I admit that my working experience with police (not as a police officer) for so many years has coloured my perception, but my first hand experience in my second job only reinforced that perception.
Would a case to each member of Parliament supporting this, get the curfew dropped?
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
oooohhh boo hoo harden up

I'd rather see the curfew from 10pm to 11am.
Might stop some of brain dead idiots walking the streets pissing, spewing, littering, fighting everywhere.

If you're out at 4AM (which is the best time IMO) then all you need to keep going is a top up every now and then.
D***heads will always be d***heads, it doesn't matter the time, place or amount of alcohol.

in VIC you can't buy alcohol after 11pm (from bottle-os, liquor stores etc) you can only pay a fortune at a bar/club

How about instead of punishing EVERYONE for a few screw ups, why don't we lock the dead shits up?
Give them a couple years for their efforts. See how quickly it stops.
This country has everything arse backwards.
You're all no fun![]()
lock someone up for what? where do you propose these people go?
get caught pissing in the street ? jail?
punch some bloke because he cracks a bottle over your head? both jail?
theres alot of morons out there, but for every idiot you see on a saturday night/sunday morning theres 100 doing the right thing having a great time
now i love a drink (a responsible drink at that) but i cant see that curfew being that much of an inconvenience. although i hate nanny state governments/policys with a passion..
1. if u know you're having a big night, stock up! u wont need to look for a 24hr bottle-o if theres heaps in the fridge
2. anyone looking for more piss at 4am on a regular basis is a glutton for punishment. if you've been charging on for god knows how long, you're going to hurt enough when u wake up as it is. do yourself a favour and call it a night.
3. u can bet your bottom dollar if this comes in that the curfew hours will be extended sooner or later. i know i would be really pissed off if i couldn't get a 6 pack at 7-8am after doing a 12.5 hr nightshift. i've been in many a bottle-o at opening time over the years and its a very rare occurence to see people in there still charging on from the night before

Its really simple, punish those that cause the problem, not everyone else!!!
If only it was that simple, Soop.
The problem is, it isn't just a few that ruin it for everyone. It's a vast number, in every capital city across the country and many smaller towns as well. Why do you think the police have asked for reduced trading hours across the country? It isn't just to reduce their workload or make life easier for them, though doubtless it would if trading hours were reduced. Drunkenness accounts fror a huge proportion of crime in our society, much more than just being drunk and fighting. Malicious injury, malicious damage, DUI, serious crimes, murder. Perhaps most of society can behave responsibly with alcohol but a very large percentage can't or won't.
I've heard the excuse that other countries have 24 hour trading and we are only catching up to them, but our social problems because of alcoholic excess mean that law-makers and law enforcers have to address the problem by means other than just arresting and charging the offenders. There are quite simply too many offenders for the police to cope with.
