It said the annual fuel bill of families in Sydney's west could skyrocket by up to $2000 a vehicle, if ongoing tension in the Middle East continues to force oil prices up. The NRMA also called on the Federal Government to develop a strategy to deal with Australia's dependence on imported oil, saying motorists are "sitting ducks" when it comes to fuel prices.
NRMA president Wendy Machin said households should be bracing themselves.
"A couple of years ago we would have said $2 was alarmist, but in mid-2008 prices were close to $1.70 and 18 months before it was $1.10, a jump of 60c in that short time.
"At the moment $1.50 is fairly average at the bowser and we have this strong Aussie dollar well on parity or above that.

If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
What difference does it make, I need fuel, I use fuel, I fill up again, no way I can not.

so fuel going up by 33% will add $2000 to the average petrol bill, what a load of .......
The average person doesnt burn $6000 a year. Sure there are some people that do, but unless you are a tradey that goes from job to job it sounds ridiculous.
People have to drive across Melb or Sydney everyday just to go to work?, that's lunacy at the extreme, or are we factoring in sunday drives and holidays as well?.
Can't afford it, don't buy it. Simple.
I hate people that whinge about fuel costs.
Meh, if you need it you'll buy it regardless of price.
Don't like it?
Then walk............simple really.
As long as LPG stays cheap I couldn't really care
Wow, some silly replies...
So I guess none of you have a problem with the proposed Carbon tax?? Afterall if you can't afford the higher prices stiff shit right?

YAY just going to make living ####ing harder, Doing it tough as it is, esp when work is 90km round trip and no public transport where i am ffs, oh well just have to find more $ out of my arse lol
As already said, if you want to drive, you need petrol....Can't do much about it.
However, i do live only 2Km from work.
I'm happy to whinge about fuel prices, as I'm trying to pay off a new car for the misses as well as a new house on apprentice wages. So yes it does matter to some

You soon learn that some in this forum don't give a rat's arse about others. The "I'm alright Jack" attitude is alive and well here. I note that most replies are from V8 owners, so obviously, they consider fuel to be a minor issue as they know they will use a fair bit of it and prices rises don't matter so much. Others don't have long journeys to work everyday, so again, it's not a worry to them. Good luck to them. For some people, who live in areas where work is a fair distance away, and public transport is poor or non-existent, or for tradies who drive bulk distances each year, substantial increases in petrol prices will affect them. Saying that it will cost an extra $2 grand a year is over the top and typical of the media, who love to mould public opinion, but you can bet that any increases, over and above international fuel costs, will affect a lot of people. Just not many on this forum, I guess.
Yeah, this site is full of people who love the 'cant afford it, stiff shit line' be it taxes, petrol, speeding fines, rego, insurance etc. etc.
For the average household, yes, $2p/l is redicuals for fuel and something needs to be done about it or better public transport needs to be introduced.
aZk.
I don't know what others thoughts behind their comments are but in my case I grew up in a family of whingers and now work with a whole bunch of whingers so I can't really be bothered jumping on the band wagon and becoming one also. Life is too short to keep getting upset over things you got no control over, so as I said as long as LPG stays cheap then I don't really care.
My LPG conversion paid itself off in no time with the klms I do and that's why I did it.
i wouldn't say the site is full of them just a few
and they're the same ones who trot out the usual shit that they made excellent life choices so they are far superior to the rest of us common folk.
wank wank
fuel prices well and truly suck at the moment
i paid $1.59 a litre on monday today i paid $1.37 so it was a little better
I paid $1.54 wednesday, saturday cheaper $1.45. Thing with rising fuels is watch the days its cheaper they have changed.

i was used to paying 1.20 here in this shithole. went to fill up the other day and ended up being 1.60 I know its "only 40c" but it all adds up and im only young and don't have the highest paid job thats for sure
Yeah pretty much this. Im used to paying around 1.60 anyway with 98, so its not such a big deal for me. But the cheap day is no longer Tuesday/Wednesday. At the moment it seems to be the weekend. So...in reality prices havent changed THAT MUCH, just the cycle has shifted.
$1.34 in Geelong today, made sure I filled up, havent seen ultimate under 1.50 in weeks.
