I remember not that long ago when TV stations used to run all their program's exactly to the half hour..what a pain it is now.. just about all the stations run their shows over the half hour so they finish/start at 8.34...6.36 etc..but each channel is different..I for one am sick of it !!..makes it so hard to go from watching one show to another..of course they do this on purpose...I guess they are de-regulated and can do this..just shows what happens when you let de-regulation loose..it is soooo annoying!
i have a solution...

I've all but stopped watch telly now days - most of it is simply dribble and canned laughter. So I dont have to worry about time slots being 10 minutes out or 5 x louder adverts.
And the mindless moving of programs around - I gave up when they had CSI everything on every night of the week followed by 2 and a half million men shitcom on.

Hey 2 and a half men was a very popular show and it wont be the same if for some stupid reason they bring it back on without Charlie Sheen in it. I also don't watch much TV, if I do it will only be a show or 2 then off it goes, some nights not at all. Doesn't really bother me about the time slots, it's on when it's on I guess.2 and a half million men shitcom on.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
Digital TV should be commended for actually playing movies lately, not reality TV dribble. But certainty they need to consider timing.
Schindler's List was on the other night at 10pm. It's a good 3 hour movie, include adds and that's 4 hours. Staying up until 2am to watch it? No thanks. But in their prime time slot they programmed replayed CSI and CSI Miami back to back between 8:00 to 10:00 - it's a little confusing.
Also, has anyone else noticed GO! have been stuffing up their programme lately? Freddy v Jason scheduled for 10:30pm, and instead Survivor Redemption is on... 0.o
of course, they dont want you channel switching, i hated it when i went from like mythbusters to good news week, that bloody masterchef didnt finish until like 8:45.
also when they show tv shows every day it ruins the experience. topgear on once a week goes for 1hr on sbs, was fantastic. every night for 1hr -> 1h30m on channel 9, completely ruined it.

There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
foxtel IQ
i just record the one that starts a bit later and then when the other programme finishes rewind the second one back to the start
One word: download.
I only watch what I want to watch, when I want to watch it.
It has been over 10 years at least since I last watched anything on free to air. I record stuff from Foxtel once in a while, but learnt to live without TV. Like CSP, we download series if we are interested in watching them.
I often get asked "Did you watch such and such last night?" To which I reply "I don't watch TV" It just doesn't sink in with some people.
im less pissed at the time slots, and more pissed at the different volumes.
i mean, how fraking hard is it for every station to broadcast at the same volume?!?!?!
and since I'm talking about volume, legislate it so ads have to be like 75% of current volume levels.... because I know they say they dont crank up volumes during the ads, but like frak they dont.... so just make them lower anyway.
-that is all, rant over.
I havent watched tv since the X Files miniseries ended. Nowadays its just mindless tension, voyerism and just more news in a world gone mad. I only watch any movie I'm interested at the cinema.
Maybe its just my choice to live a simpler life without 'Hollywood'
I find that I find 90% of the shows on tv very annoying, so I cant comprehend why people get so worked up over 'reality tv'
Agreed. No advertisements and direct from the US. Not these mixed and matched seasons they play here and claim to be "All new episodes".
I won't get Foxtel. There would only be handful of stations I may or may not even watch and I refuse to pay for the channels I don't want just because it's part of their "minimum package"

Tomorrow doesn't look good either.
God must love stupid people, He made so many.
I have Foxtel but probably not for much longer. Two things keep increasing annually. The fee, and the number of commercials. I can watch all the commercials I want on free to air - why would I want to PAY to watch the mongrel things?
I'll miss a couple of channels that cover things not readily available either as downloads or on free to air, but them's the breaks. I'll enjoy keeping the cash.
The digital channels do play movies, it's just too bad that they play the same movie 2 weeks later!
What if there was nothing on those 5 channels then you would have to wait 30 minutes or so for the next show.
This way you can always be promised new starting shows regularly.
The peak volume of ads is no louder than the actual programs. They just use compression technologies to make sure all the audio is as loud as it legally can be. (eg. tv program has mostly quiet scenes with a big BANG now and then, whereas the whole advertisement audio is as loud as the BANG) It isn't louder, it is just perceived as louder. But you are correct that a reduced level for ads would be good but would be very hard to implement and regulate.
Thanks to university and all the downloading power/filesharing i will ever need i no longer remember what shitty TV programing is like.
