OK before I start let me just say this... Comments from people who don't like Apple or the iPhone and just want to troll/flame/etc are not welcome.
Until there's a decent Android phone that works on Telstra's NextG network, the iPhone 4 on NextG is simply the best coverage option for a lot of people. I tried the HTC Desire HD and LOVED the phone. Vodafail's network though, is pathetic at best and the HTC Desire HD isn't 3G 850Mhz (NextG) compatible so I switched.
Anyhow, to my point... I have a 4.2.1 JB iPhone 4. Time and date set to 24hr with 4 pre-set alarms and time and date set to update automatically.
Now, as everyone knows, daylight saving went back overnight between Sat & Sun. I woke up on Sunday and the time/date on my phone were 100% fine! DST updated fine.
This morning, my 6:30am alarm went off as normal. My phone said 6:30am and I got up. Problem was it was actually only 5:30am! So the phone for some strange reason went back to DST (i.e. + 1hr). If I change the setting to NOT update automatically (from Telstra's network I assume) it drops the DST hour and is fine.
So this leads me to think it's a network issue. Trouble is, other people I know with EXACTLY the same setup as me haven't had a problem at all today. It's just completely strange that yesterday was fine and today it's not.
i know what ya mean about the coverage on vodafone.....
shame about the dst stuff, i've had this problem before on previous phones with telstra.
might pay to put it back on and if i jumps the hour, give them a ring and find out why..
Chev badges are an instant fail
Turns out, a reboot of the phone fixes it and I can turn on "Set Automatically" again without a drama.
So it's clearly an iPhone issue. But how? Why?
CSP Its a well known issue with all iPhones, Apple are aware of the issue & Im sure there will be a software update to fix the issue, does not affect everyone, My iPhone & the Mrs iPhone both worked fine, changed no worries at all.
Interesting, didnt have a problem myself, nor the guy i catch up with each Monday morning, both on iphone 4's?

No probs with my iPhone 4. Could it have something to do with the JB?
There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
LoL, Sounds like when it authenticated with Telstra, They didn't talk properly hence the rollback.
The DST issue was fixed with 4.2.1
Anyway, 4.3.1 Jailbreak is out, Suggest you go take a look
Cheers

i didn't have any problems
maybe cause we don't mess with our clocks up here
LOL!!! What a crock!!! If I have a hardware issue (i.e. a button stops working or something like that) then warranty covers it. If I have a software/firmware issue, I fix it myself through restoration or SSH. People who say jailbreaking an iPhone voids the warranty have no idea.
Yeah and get daylight at 5am in Summer? NO THANKS!!! I refuse to travel to our clients in QLD over the summer months. People are backwards in QLD.
dunno if its the same as the ipod touch but if you set the clock on your computer to the right time then sync your iphone it should set to the time on your computer.

Really? This is from the Apple site regarding jail breaking a phone. Unauthorized modification of iOS has been a major source of instability, disruption of services, and other issues
So according to the Support site for Apple, they have no idea? LOL.Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks the iOS. It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of the iOS is a violation of the iPhone end-user license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.
No... That's very cleverly worded in order to deter people, or scare people, into not jailbreaking. Fact is, nothing I modify can cause any hardware issues. And that's what you have warranty for. Software will ALWAYS work, or be able to be restored if corrupted etc, on working hardware. And they can't deny any customer a hardware warranty claim because they changed the software of a device they bought, paid for and own. It would be like Dell refusing to replace a faulty hard drive in a laptop because the owner re-installed the operating system.
Jailbreaking actually ENHANCES the iPhone experience. It makes it what Apple should make it out of the box! One basic example of the sort of extra functionality I have thanks to JB is with the swiped of a finger over the operator logo / battery indicator (same sort of swipe as the unlock swip) I get to enable or disable: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, Data, Airplane mode, brightness, manage processes, respring, restart or power off ALL with a single touch. Why the hell isn't something like that standard? Not to mention being able to FULLY customise the layout, backgrounds, icons, etc etc... Custom SMS tones (any MP3 on ANY iPhone JB or not can be made a ringtone for free contrary to popular belief that you have to buy custom ring tones for non-JB phones)
Nope - I'll ALWAYS be a fan of jailbreaking. An iPhone is like someone with autism. Has way more potential than it knows or understands how to use. Jailbreaking is the cure. (no offence intended obviously)
I guess they have a product out of the box that is really easy to use and basically caters for the lowest common dominator. But why not have an option or something that's "Simple" or "Advanced" and actually use everything the iPhone is capable of?
CSP, is completely right
Software side of things, Once a DFU restore is performed, the device is like you just pulled it out of a box from Apple. There is no way to backtrace any activity on the device.
Sash, Jailbreaking does not void warranty, Not create any issues or non-repairable excuses.
An iPhone is a magical device that has a kernel bootrom which has low level writing off, Meaning you cannot "Brick" the device, Unlike Nokias, Sony Ericssons, HTC etc...
Lastly people that bitch saying Jailbreaking makes their battery life shorter, or makes springboard crash, That is all user error.
The battery life is only shorter because you have tweaked your device to how you like it meaning you actually use it more than previously,
