Four boys identified over 'abhorrent' swan killing

They know who the shits who did this are!

Now I want to know what you guys think the punishment should be, and your predictions onwhat their punishment inevitabley will be.

I think their punishment should be releasing their names and pictures publicly and having this somehow stay on their reports for the rest of their lives.

What these shits did was the first steps towards being an absolute #### of a human being.

What I foresee they will get, is some slap on the wrist community service at best, but probably they will be victimised and receive counciling.

This isnt just kids being kids, this is totally ####ed up behaviour.

What their punishment should be: public name and shame, community service work for 6 months, and fine the parents $5000.
What their punishment will be: identities withheld, an apology through their lawyer and written by their lawyer, and a $50 slap on the wrist.... "naughty johnny, please dont torture and kill animals again ok? it's bad mmk".

then for every $1 of the fine should be $1 of community service in a bright fluro pink and orange jumpsuit with writing on the suit "I Killed The Swan" make them clean up rubbish with just bare hands, in the most busiest areas so every one can see them.
or even better a bright orange and pink swan suit.

make it a message for other people, your gonna be humiliated if you do these types of things.
like at school Yard Duty is more embarassing then Detention, not to hard to think why.

the punishment should be severe, but it won't. I was talking to some inspectors from the Dept of Primary Industries just last week (they also are involved in animal welfare - cattle etc) and they said the RSPCA works under the same legislation that they do. Whilst they do have some serious legislative powers to prosecute, most charges don't stick and/or are minimised when it goes to court. They said it's fairly much a joke.

Bad enough these kids have very killed a completely harmless animal in such a cruel way, but what the biggest concern is, kids like this who obviously have a blatant disregard for life, will more than likely grow up to be rapists, murderers etc, especially if they are let off now with a slap on the wrist. Kids like this should be taken into detention and treated like hardened criminals for 6 months, scare the absolute crap out them, so they realise this is unacceptable behaviour and understand what their fate will be as adults if they continue down that path.

just for the record I don't agree with duck shooting either. If a bird is killed (humanely) for food, then fair enough - I think most of us eat chicken.
what makes this very different however, is the way they killed it.
they stoned it to death, and apparently they did it purely for self gratification. It's a rather long agonising death for the bird don't you think ?

Theres a huge difference between killing a bird quickly with a bullet and sitting there for how ever many minutes it took for that bird to die. Its not just killing a bird, it was flat out torture. Prolonged pain and a slow death.

Edit: In reality my punishment would be making them give up their weekends working in separate animal shelters for 6 months. See if we could teach them some respect for animals before we hang them high.
edit2: It might also show us which one may have psychopathic tendencies and which just follow. Taking money is not really a good "punishment" if there are ways the person can learn something from the reality they've created for themselves.. In fact pushing them to poverty may make them angrier towards society and it could then be an even more bitter situation.
Edit3: Who knows yet. One of the females, _not involved_, may be the psycho.

I think the calls to stone them and cut off their hands are a bit extreme, punishments fit for Iran or Afghanistan. I think a shitload of REAL hard labour should be the first step, maybe also some sort of hard out boot camp with an army veteran or something where they get run ragged.

Unfortunately they will get a good dose of bureaucracy and counciling.
