anyone using the clem 7 tunnel that has a privately registered commercial vehicle would be advised to check your statements.
i've been getting charged commercial rates for a commodore ute (which is now $6.61 compared to $3.95 for a car) for some time.
i complained several weeks ago and thought it was sorted but the next trip was charged at the higher rate
i thought utes were a commercial vehicle??
last time i checked they were, thats why they charged at a higher rate for rego in some states
Chev badges are an instant fail
Good luck proving you were not using your ute for non commercial purposes is all I can say.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
Let's be clear here. It's not "Commercial Rates" it's "Commercial Vehicle Rates". Based on the fact that a commercial vehicle can cause more wear and tear on the road.
If you drive a ute you SHOULD get charged the commercial vehicle rate. If you don't want to be charged a commercial vehicle rate, stop driving a commercial vehicle.
The thread title is completely misleading - this is in no way a rort!
Yet the ATO rates the Holden Commodore Ute as a private vehicle for FBT purposes. You need to get into cab chassis territory to be deemed commercial. I'm not sure how the Falcon/Crewman sits in this matter. Based on your contention all utes should be FBT exempt like any other commercial vehicle.

That's interesting. I know the Ford Falcon ute is considered commercial for FBT purposed (i.e. exempt) so I thought the Commodore ute would be the same. I know someone who has a commercial lease on an FG XR6T and pays no FBT because of it. But I don't know anyone with a Commodore ute on a lease. Hence my assumption. I wonder if it's because the Ford is actually a split cab/tub?
Cool... Another advantage for the FG![]()

There is an old list but you get the idea. It looks like it needs to be a cab/chassis or van to qualify in broad terms.

yes it is a cab/chassis but it's registered for private use not commercial use and according to qld motorways that puts it in the same category as a car
never have a problem on any other toll roads
here's an old article i found
