Bomb Threat in Geelong. CBD in Lockdown

BREAKING NEWS POLICE have shut down one of Geelong's busiest shopping districts after a suspected bomb threat.

Malop St is in lockdown as police cordon off an area from the Carlton Hotel to Yarra St.

Traffic and pedestrians are being to keep away from the area.

A Holden Commodore sedan parked outside the NAB appears to be the centre of police concerns.

The police Special Operations group is on its way to the scene.

Police confirmed they were investigating claims of a “possibly suspect package” .

They told the Geelong Advertiser the incident was sparked by an angry customer at the NAB.

The man parked a grey mid-1990s Holden Commodore in Malop St outside the bank and left the scene before returning in Renault van.

He was arrested after getting out of the van and made threats that there was an explosive device in the Commodore.

Witnesses saw a man taken into custody by police a short while ago. He was pushed against the wall of the Bendigo Bank and handcuffed.

Wearing a beanie and a windcheater, the man was said to be talking calmly with police.

Witnesses believe the matter to be related to a bomb threat.

Workers and customers at the NAB have been evacuated.

One witness, Aaron, said he was evacuated from the area near the Carlton Hotel.

you would be surprised just how many bomb threats get made every day, and don't make the papers, just last Monday while i was on the way to work a call came over the CB advising of a threat to CWB in tville. the way the operators handled it made it seem like an everyday occurrence, they only sent 2 cars to 'have a look'.

I remember one time back when I was in Grade 9, I was at a school dance and some people who lived near the school called the school and made a bomb threat, purely because they were sick of the noise lol.

There was a bomb threat at Matthew Flinders back in 1997 and the entire school was evacuated, we missed out on PE.... That's a shame *evil grin*
