So we had some work done at "a paint shop" in Perth back in November.
Every single panel they have touched has gone to shit, but has only recently shown up.
Rear bar: You can see where they fixed it, the paint is darker, I was under the impression the entire bar was being painted.
Passenger doors: Chalky marks coming through the paint.
Front bar: Previous stone chips & rub marks showing up through the paint.
Scoop: Rub mark showing up through the paint.
I told them and took the car in for them to have a look and was told it will buff/polish out, I wasn't convinced. So I took it to 2 different spray painters and let them have a look (without mentioning the issues) and they both said there's not a chance it will buff/polish out, the paint doesn't match, its under the clear coat and that's all there is to it.
So I text the owner and let him know I'm heaps annoyed etc and got a reply pretty much saying thanks for not trusting our judgement, sorry for any inconvenience and good luck with the new painter....
While I do have someone willing to fix the mess up, I'm heaps pissed off that we gave this place near $4000 and already had to take it back coz of issues once before yet he wants me to trust his judgement?
Where do I go from here? Am I best pursuing it, do they "have" to fix it or do I just have to suck it up and pay for the work to be done AGAIN?
they HAVE to fix it.
Your not the first to say that, but since its been a while (well since Sept, I searched my thread for a date) I'm assuming they aren't going to accept fault.
I honestly wouldnt let them try and fix it. Who knows what bodgy shit they will do to cover it up.
However, if you want to go down the road of lodging a complaint with whatever you have in WA, then you are going to have to let them fix it.
Out of interest, how much is this other joint looking to charge you to get it fixed? In most cases its just easier to drop it and get it fixed cause these places just transfer the blame to anyone who touched the car after they painted it.
You can definitely see where theyve just masked the problem, in light it would come up like shit.
Mate I definitely wouldn't cop that. To say they don't except fault for paint works they did 6 odd months ago is ludicrous! Last time I checked if your paying 4g for some paint work, naturally you'd expect it not to sh*t itself 6 months down the track!?!?
P.s. Name and shame this company in my opinion. They deserve to be known for the dodgey work they do and to warn others from this mob as they obviously take no pride in the work they do, which is essential to any good spray painter / panel beater!
thought VACC shops had to have a 5 year guarantee on their finishes? i could be wrong, but most shops will have to sort out repairs within that 5 year period. (unless it was a cashie)
$1500 to repair all the marks AND put the hole in the bonnet under the scoop.
Nah I'm not going to name them, they are pretty big here in WA so I am pretty pissed off that them of all people could do such shitty work.
I'm thinking it might be easier to just let it go and take it elsewhere, I dunno. Just emailed him with pictures (the owner hasn't seen the issues, it was his dad who looked at them) so see what he says I suppose.

up to you whether you want to spend another $1500
if it were me i'd take it back and let them fix it.
i've had dodgy work done by panel beaters before and it's always been fixed properly when i've taken it back
they'll whinge and bitch about having to redo it though
COmmunicate with them in writing only no text messages typed, registered post letters, contact fair trading and MTA for legal advice and this information is about the total you should take from The Internet. Talk to the people thaqt actually make decisions.

If it were mine, i'd howl until the cows came home and make them do it. After all, they ####ed it up in the first place, why should you spend anymore to fix their mistakes?
Here is the response we got from an email.
Thanks guys! Seems its going to be fixed *PHEW*You have my word the car won't leave the shop until the marks are gone. Buff, repair or paint, it will be fixed. I wasn't aware that my father was adamant a buff would take it out, I'm sure if he attempted to buff it and it didn't come out then a re-paint would of course be required - which will be the course of action regardless.
I haven't seen the car personally so I can't give you my professional opinion so I have to go off what I've been told and seen in the pictures - a cut & compound will be attempted first followed by a buff to see what results that gives, if that doesn't solve the problem then we will repaint the affected areas as required.
I'll personally go over the car myself this time before handing it back to you.
I truly apologize for this inconvenience. Unfortunately a mixture of useless (now ex) painting staff and a paint system that just wasn't up to the standards we had expected it to be have let us down a few times in the past, a mistake we have had to live with and move on from so I'm happy to help resolve this issue as quickly and easily as possible for you.
Yeah his attitude changed alot... When he got sent an email from Adam *rolls eyes*
Lol......gotta love "it wasn't us it was someone that used to work here" :P
But good to see a happy resolution to your problem.
PS: Bet it was a chain that has a big red and blue logo? :P
