    Default Holden vs Honda

My mate thinks his 1989 Honda CRX is the duck's nuts and my 2009 VE SV6 just doesn't stack up. He firmly believes that Honda are far superior in built quality and performance (quoting robotic technology and F1 cars) to Holden vehicles which simply "fall to bits." He concluded by saying Honda has an international reputation for quality and that's something GM will never have.

    Thoughts?

I should mention that my mate declined a drag race after experiencing the power of my car soon after I purchased it.

Honda are very good build quality.... I reckon better than Holden.
Mrs had a Honda Jazz a few years back (Japan make, not Thailand as they are now). Terrific little car with a build quality far superior to Holden (when you compare $ for $).
I dont think anyone could argue that a top of the line 'luxury' VE would be better than a luxury Honda in terms of build quality, but there will always be Holden fanboi's that will scream differently .

However your mates example of an 89 CRX being better than an 09 VE doesnt help his arguement .

Umm.... in the same way you'd decline a drag race against a Zonda .
    Completely different class of car!

Honda's do have pretty good build quality but I don't think I'd ever buy one. Dirtbikes on the other hand, I've had 2 and they are bullet proof.

VE Comodores are fair ugly but geez CRX's are about as bad as it gets.

    Thats a very open statement.

(cant find MY10 figures) highly doubt they have gained 1/2 and 3/4 second respectively. You are though comparing new with old.

As for the honda argument vs holden...honda would fail...take it to the track, $10 says he wont do it

You're absolutely right mate. The SV6 will leave the SS for dead because the SS driver will be too busy laughing at how much of a tool the SV6 driver is for trying to race!

You're right, with a potential 0.5 second difference, it will depend heavily on the drivers. However, the SIDI is slightly faster than the previous models.

Unfortunately, this isn't about V6 vs V8 though. It's about a die-hard Honda fan getting dumped on his ass!

why do people always want to know whos got the fastest slow car in a straight line. corners are where the fun is in slow cars (v6 commodores and hondas).

Stock Commodore isn't exactly a blast in the twisties either. Regardless of what motor it has.

true, but its more fun than driving in a straight line in a v6. that is very boring.

Just on that and a little off topic, I noticed at winton (motor magazine test) the commodore sv6 was almost 2 seconds slower a lap than the ford xr6. Considering the SV6 has a faster 1/4 and 0-100 time its brake and suspension package must really suck balls.

probably the suspension more so, because winton doesnt really have many hand braking areas and is really bumpy. its a pretty shit track, no grip there.

the main braking area would be just before the tight section over the back and maybe the old turn 1. because v6's wont get fast enough down the short straights.

89' crx would out corner a VE any day of the week. those babys are set up really nicely and the vtech engine delivers piss all power, but delivers piss all power evenly and all the way up to 8k rpm, which added to the FWD setup makes for some pretty hair raising cornering. i personally have driven one through that crappy track at DECA and man, you could realllllly press it around bends.

and jap cars are pretty spot on for build quality. dunno bout them "not falling apart" since most of the interior is plastic, but meh.

You would smash him in a straight line. As far as build quality goes, a 89 honda will be better than an 89 commodore, but not a 2009 commdore

What about 2009 Honda vs 2009 Holden? I think the build quality would be close!

The interior Styling of the Euro is better IMO. (Styling is subjective)
As for the quality, from a brief sit in one I'd say their on a similar par. You'd really have to own both cars for 12months to comment on that though I guess.
