Default Tyre advice for a 2005 Toyota Prado that does see some moderate off-road action.

My brother needs some new tyres for his '05 Prado, and he does see some off-road fun every now and again, but the tyres also need to be a daily with the kids in the back.

    Any recommendations?

He got advised to get some Micky T's from a local mechanic. My brother thinks they were F-C II or the ATZ 4-rib, but all really remembers is they were around $399 each.

    Cheers in advance.

Mate there are lots of off road tyres out there. Mickey Thompson make awsome tyres, the Dick Cepek FC-2's are a good tyre and worth the money. Steer clear of coopers, to many people reporting issues with them, having said that there are just as many people who love them, i just dont hear that with other tyres.

I rate Goodyear offroad tyres also. Like anything else out there you get what you pay for, but shop around and see whats out there. BFG AT's are also a well known and trusted tyre.

My brother inlaw runs Cooper STs(33s) and he has had no issues.he has done heaps of klms and they still look new.The are on a 100 series Landcruiser.
I run Federal Mud tyres(33s) on my GQ Patrol and they are great off road but really shit on a wet road. With a big truck and no ABS it can bet a bit scary. When i go a bit higher i will be running my MT Baja Claws(35s).

I am leaning towards the BFGoodrich AT KO or the Mickey T ATZ 4-Rib as my two best recommendations to my brother. I have read MANY good reviews on the BFG's with a few comments thrown in about thier ability to pick up crap, but apparently they have a really strong design.

BFG AT's are good, but they wear quickly. My brother went through a set on his hilux in 40000 whereas a set of cooper st's lasted for over 80000. I run the bridgestone at's on mine and are rapt in them. Very capible off road and excellent on road and most importantly, not noisey on the black stuff.

My old man got 110,000km's out of set of 31" BFG's AT's 90% on road driving an 80,000km's out of 31" cooper ST's 90% on road driving. I recomend BFG's
