Default Youth dies after stolen car crashes into pond

Joel McKenzie killed after joyride in stolen car in Sydney | News.com.au

WHAT allegedly began as a joyride in a stolen car ended in the death of a teenager at the bottom of a Sydney pond early yesterday.
Police divers recovered the body of Grays Point resident Joel McKenzie, 19, after the Toyota Corolla in which he was travelling drove into the pond at Scarborough Park, Kogarah about 3am.
His 19-year-old friend was also in the car but escaped unscathed. It is understood police are still trying to determine who was driving the vehicle.
St George police acting Inspector Dave Muddle alleged the car was stolen early yesterday morning.
The car's owner Carlos Barriga, 40, said he was "shocked" when police knocked on his door at 6am with the news.
"I heard a car at around two in the morning driving but I was never going to think it was my car or that this would happen in my street," the Monterey resident said. "What stopped me is that a person died, a young person."
Sorry if I sound like a dick, but he was joyriding in a stolen car,*possibly driving* and died as a result. sounds like karma to me.

If you look at the omments on the article it has morons going on about how young people shouldn't be allowed to drive until 18, and how professional training should be done.

How would that of helped. God people are stupid

yeah im sorry, ppl who steal cars are scum, we work hard to pay for them, then some s**thead comes along and decides he wants to take it for a spin.

its a shame that he died, but if he hadnt of stolen it in the first place it wouldnt have happened.

I know it sounds callous but, SUCK SHIT. And I bet the passenger mate won't do anything like that after seeing his mate die right in front of him.

professional training should be done, im a p plater and am even sick of some of these people who have been driving for 30+ yrs who dont know how to merge

as for joyriding, more like theft of a motor vehicle and then destruction of property. (harsher penalties anyone?)
now if only that other 19yr old has the Balls to tell the truth
but he will now be haunted by the death of his mate, potentially at his hands, for the rest of his life

There's no way he deserved to die for that, just some stupid kid doing stupid shit for thrills. Doesn't even get the chance to grow up and learn the error of his ways (like most of us).

So lame, who steals a Toyota Corolla? And then manages to crash it!

Maybe the kid didn't deserve to die, but safe to say he was driving like a muppet since he ended up crashing it and therefore I say, better him than someone else he kills.

When your car is stolen by joy riders please come back and share that same sentiment. I call it karma.

hey it is high time these kids start thinking of the potential consequenses of thier action, KARMA or not.
unfortunantely they don't think about what could happen and only think about the fun they can have, maybe some of thier friends will think twice now?

Most of us don't steal cars and most of us don't drive like complete muppets.

Kids want thrills? Heaps of way to get thrills that doesn't involve stealing cars.

My only wish if my gets stolen is that it ends up killing who ever was involved so I got no sympathy for the kid, only his family.

I've had a car stolen. I can say I never wished the culprit dead. But then I'm not a heartless bitch.

No sympathy here, he might have just been doing stupid shit for thrills but this douchebag could have very well of hurt and/or killed an innocent motorist with his cheap thrills. I'm glad he only took himself out and not a family driving past him.

Had my care stolen before, they blew up the diff before dumping it along with a bag full of stolen credit cards. Sure i was pissed off and wanted
to put my fist through their face but i certainly didn't wish they crashed into a pond and drown.
Imagine if that was one of your kids.

My kids were all raised in a good environment therefore never resorted to crime. They knew right from wrong. All are adults now and I just asked my two boys if they supported what I said. They both said if anyone stole their cars and died as a result they would share my views.

The same could be said for the kid who died. His parents are probably asking where they went wrong. Don't be so quick to pass judgment when you have no idea of what actually happened. They can't even prove he was driving.
