Default what a great start to the day this morning...

6:30am... foggy road... old man in hilux without headlights on... 16 years of driving without incident down the drain. My fault for not seeing him I guess...

The hilux ended up on its roof 15 or so metres away. The old fella had a few cuts and bruises, nothing serious thank god.

Mate, judging by the wreck you're extremely lucky to be alive.
It's a shame about the VT but not many people can say they've walked away from a head on, especially with a luxy.

That's alot of damage. He's lucky to only have bruises. Are you ok?

630am should have had headlights on regardless of fog! Really pisses me off how people don't just use there damn lights!

Did the cops attend? I'd argue fault personally

The impact on his car was glanced down once side and the tray is what did all the damage to me. Very happy with the commodore's safety, I dont even have a sore neck or anything. The mods were mainly the clubsport body kit, headlights and tail lights. Engine was stocko. Just paid $420 last week to have a new starter motor, new key and ignition barrel fitted. Lol. Least I dont have to worry about changing the strut bearings now?

Actually it's low beam in fog AFAIK. The light reflects off the fog so high beam is bad for visibility.

Sucks bout the car mate, but at least everyone's ok. I've had a had a head on with a 4wd. Not a fun experience.

    Wow, your extremely luck.
I had a head on with a truck going through an intersection and it is a terrible experience.
No one wants to hear crunching metal on metal

He should have had headlights on but it isn't the law, so i suppose there isnt much you can do.

    Hope your coping alright

Ouch, thats nasty. Go give your statement to the cops and tell them about the other guy driving without head lights.
They will probably say you should have been driving slower in fog as well. Depends what else went down but you might be OK.
I know the feeling, happens so suddenly you're just like Oh #%$# Bang FaRK what was that ?

Not 100% sure but would it not be still dark at 630? Particuarly on yhe shortest day of the year, therefore requiring headlights?

When I get up for work at around 6:20, it's fairly light, but still dark enough to use your lights if you want, though if it was foggy your lights would be needed for sure. The one thing I hate is silver cars driving at night (Well, when it's starting to get dark) or through fog with no lights on, they turn invisible!

Glad you're okay but yeah hopefully you don't feel any pains later as someone else stated, whiplash can take a few to show up

yeah correct. fog lights are actually pointed lower down to the road than low beams, so they dont reflect and glare back at you.

Say what now? A car on the road without it's foglights on?!?!

That's a rarity considering when I drive home 9 out of 10 cars will have their fogs on in perfect weather. Ironic that this bloke didn't have his fogs on, in foggy weather.

I got a $40 fine for "misuse of fog lights" when I had my S13 because I was driving past some guys who were meeting up for a hoon session & the cops drove past me & did a u-turn and pulled me over (at which point the hoons then proceeded to bail past me) & the cop was like "it isn't even foggy & why are they yellow?" to which I said umm it IS foggy & they are stock like this, I didn't colour them, but alas, he was a douche and fined me, and I asked him if he was happy that a fog light fine made him meet his quota lol

but back on topic, its a shame that you car is how it is now, looked really nice and clean.
isnt it a rule to have your lights on between dusk and dawn?

Interesting, real fog lights are yellow. This is because yellow light penetrates the fog better, whereas whiter lights reflect back more.

It IS the law - you can be fined and receive demerit points for an offence which is "Drive at night or in hazardous conditions without appropriate lights"
