Put this in Off-Topic because it pretty much is. No lectures please, I've only had the car for a few months, so blame the person before (He had it for about a year or two) / the New Zealand Police force (Rest of it's life)
Some were even over-tightened so I'm guessing this is why some snapped.
The cars done 220,000km so my guess is this is the second set?
whats wrong with them? look fine to me...
Maybe I put them in the wrong way then?
well atleast they are all the same type. Lol
did the previous owner look like he had any idea about replacing spark plugs or do you think it was the last fleet service by holden's before it went to auction?
Nobody wants to play with me
From memory the owner before me had it 1-2 years about 20,000km. And before him it was a marked police car. The brand of tyres, and condition that they were in, confirm to me that the owner (And I'm pretty sure the dealer that I got it from), are morons
On a lighter note, I'm hoping for some better fuel economy now![]()
how the hell can they snap from overtightening though? o.O the part that is snapped is the exterior part
That's a good point. It's amazing how much different car advice/opinions you get from so many people isn't it? =)
what people like me telling you there fine?![]()
The black stuff is probably baked on oil from a slight leak somewhere above the plug. The broken plugs will have busted during removal, not while they were still being used. It's pretty easy to snap the porcelain when you are trying to undo excessively tight plugs - it only takes a very slight angle on the plug spanner to do it.
If they were excessively tight and had been in there for a very long time, you're lucky the threaded portion didn't snap off and remain in the head. I've seen that happen a number of times with tapered seat plugs.
if you overtighten plugs they will crack the porclain (I know from experience) as far as snapping them off like that, I haven't tightened them that much, but if they will crack then I guess there is no reason they wouldn't break off.
Nobody wants to play with me
Yes they crack real easy, pressure in the wrong place - even new ones.
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
Jee, whoever did that wasn't very...bright.
...spark plug, spark, bright. Get it?
Ahh stuff it *goes home*.
What worries me is these would of been put it while the car was in service. Police vehicles are usually serviced by dealers like Giltrap here. Haha.
theres two missing
the plugs aren't worn but why are they black and oily, including the threads ?
EFI engines can't do that unless it's truly stuffed
There may be a slight oil leak? It just had Tranny and Engine oil changed.
The plugs were worn, they looked very old, and the spaces at end were quite a bit bigger compared to the new ones.
Yeah..... well.... you have more fuel missing... cause.... Arg who am I kidding =P
all i can see in this pic is 6 perfectly fine spark plugs, of which some hack has snapped 3.
?????
