Gday Guys and Girls today i have put together a small Powdercoating Process for those interested in seeing how its done @ my work here on the Sunshine Coast..I have worked here for 4 years in August.
Rocker cover off my spare Donk Rb30.
Me Blasting the Cover
Blasted
Now before you ask i have put this cover in the bucket of ACID as i did not want to contaminate my tanks of oil
Hung up dry and ready to be Painted
Painting Process is an electrostatic coating gun and the color i have used is BLAZE BLUE GLOSS from dulux.
Painted ready for the bake process in the oven
Hung in oven all good to go
Oven up to temp at 200 Degrees. Bake timer starts at 185 and goes for 15 minutes
whole oven time takes 45 mins.
Oven has finished its process and this pic was taken with the ovens air temp at 198degrees.. great for cold mornings :P
Boompa....finished product cooled and ready to go on my Engine now, just gotta sand the paint off the "HOLDEN" part
Thankyou for having a look and hope this has answered some questions on how powdercoating is done...
Cheers guys....

Neat Stuff...!
Looks good mate!!!
that blue must be super bright before you bake it, looks wicked in the photo.
Just wondering, how much would it cost to get this done?
depends on what needs to be done before hand as in sandblasting of parts/pre-treatment if its steel it needs an undercoat epoxy primer on it 1 oven bake then the color coat 2nd oven bake and if wanted a high gloss finish the paint is CRYSTAL CLEAR over the color coat so 3 oven bakes... depending on the paint some are a gloss finish and others are Matt/Satin finish and hammertone
to answer your question mate the bright colors are very bright in color then darken in the bake process...
Cheers man
so it could be a pain in the arse for certain materials lol...how does powder coating hold up
in the engine bay?? im guessing good??
cant say ive seen to many powder coated rocker covers before
yeah man i have had my Coated cover in my engine bay for 19 months the only reason its slightly blistered(right near turbo) is because i have not build a turbo heat shield so the turbo dump/exhaust housings heat is slowly deteriorating the paint..
sweet...well i did always wonder how powder coating worked, cheers man![]()
Looks great.. I'm looking at stripping my sports bike and getting the frame, sub frame and swing arm and wheels powder coated..
Nice work clothes you got going on. Singlet and shorts :P Nice write up mate.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
stayed tuned for his next update:
"here we have Ari's impala chassis ready for the oven..."
haha yeah man Qld weather(not now Lols, but still wear it in winter with 22degrees in the day) and that big oven makes the shed hot so singlet and shorts is the go... 7000X4000X2100 oven is a great heater.
One question we have all our alloy chromated before powder coating due to the powder not adhereing to alloy.
Can you tell me why this is done where in your demo it isnt?
Is it due to the type of paint used?
We use dulux based powder coat i beleive

thanks for clearing that up and your right all our stuff is fresh mill finish fing great to weld compared to cast

nasty shit that chromium stuff.
good write up though none the less!
Glad i dont have to go near it except to drop off pick up stuff. Tell you what burnt powdercoat from welding doesnt smell/taste that good either![]()

the chromate is quite crazy, but the acid is worse being Hydroflouric acid. This acid "pure 100%" melts your bones to a jelly no word of a lie.
my bath is @ 4% mix still crazy at this level the barrels we get it in is @ 60% fkn chemicals :P
nice man turned up fantastic
wondering if you could tell me if powdercoating is a good way to paint up a cars under carriage EG subframe/suspension parts/diff
"The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven."
apparently wasting my time with 97 cubic inches
milk doesnt come in 1.6 litres
my geminis
hmmm hard call really i have done some components for the undercarriage, i would rather just a good spray paint and surface prep more so for these type of things
Righto so i have a few other things on the go
and painted the rail Anotec Dark Grey Matt

Ok lads thought i would add this to the list. If anyone is interested what VE Gts/R8/Clubsport 19" rims look like Painted Gloss Black, might even inspire some what
It came out looking amazing, pics dont do justice.
Blasted
Coated
Baked
