Atleast for a while. The US has no more money so they've practically withdrawn all funding from NASA.
yeah last one.
but what about mars.
and what happens if it doesnt go 100% right. because dont they need to bring people back from the space station?
ha lol. well what a big fail, surely the US isn't the only country with space programs? If our government wasn't so pathetic maybe we could!
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
what times it launching like 9pm??
do you really want the aussie government getting involved with space nath.
they would reinvent the spacecraft with no thought to the people who will be involved.

If the Australian government got into the space craft business they would put a carbon tax , smokers tax on it and give it some sort off Dole payment .
from what i have heard russia will be taking over, so stuff like the space station will be finished by them.
also the lift off will be about 1:30am as long as there is no delays, theres a countdown on that link i posted

space the final frontier, these are the voyages of american tax money, to boldly go where few care, and most dont even know about....
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
I wonder if Starscream is gonna shoot it as it leaves the atmosphere?

Dr Karl was suggesting on the telecast that there was $130 returned to the wider community for every dollar spent on the space program. Even if it was something close to that, it would be worth doing but Australia couldn't afford to do it (alone) anyway. He was also saying by way of background that each launch cost $1 billion.
Now, it's cheaper, easier and less risky, if less inspiring, to send robots rather than people to explore places. Those robots are becoming increasingly autonomous too.
I watched the launch early this morning and I couldn't believe the extensive pre flight preparations that were going on to get this thing off the ground.
This was a great experience to watch which I won't forget in a hurry.
I watched it too. Can you imagine being the astronauts and being all hyped up, adrenaline pumping, and at 31 seconds to go they called a countdown halt for a fault.

The countdown is usually halted at in around the last 5 mins a few times, they always like to check things are ok. Gonna be weird now, no shuttles, no directive to go to the Moon or Mars. NASA's budget only allowing for the odd probe.
NASA's budget this year, all total is $19 billion. This includes all the science acadmey's, all the wages of every employee, every building, every car, all their probes, research and around 3-4 shuttle launches per year.
America spends around $500 billion each year on the military, the war on Terror cost more than $9 trillion to the US economy. It would only cost around $3 billion to keep the shuttles going, little bit more to build a new one. They could also have a universal health care system for a little bit more. *facepalm*
Either way, glad I saw the final launch of Atlantis, was very cool![]()
