    Default Police supposedly manhandle woman

This is a hot topic on other forums and I am interested in people's views here.

Firstly I believe there is always 3 sides to a story, in this case the female, the police and truth.

I like to believe that this woman was resisting arrest and putting up a tidy fight. We don't know what happened before the camera started rolling and there is no sound in the clip to possibly hear her carrying on like a drunken slapper.

There has been discussion it must be true because the outraged Officer who handed in the tape has expressed his/her opinion this happens a lot. However I am open minded to the fact this could be a disgruntled Officer who has failed a promotion or perhaps has perceptions of how others act out their role. Now he has a bit of juicy film that can be taken out of context depending how you view it.

Let's not have any mud slinging if the debate gets heated or I will simply close the thread.

Looks like just another day in the office with another person so drunk they can't even stand up. At one stage, she looks like she's about to fall and the police grab her by the arms and pull her back up. The degree to which she was lifted onto the counter is a bit of a concern, though and the officer behind seems to have a rather firm grip on her.

Handling of prisoners, and particularly females, is a touchy issue with police and the cameras installed in charge rooms are there to protect them from false accusations, as well as to protect the prisoners from mistreatment.

Obviously, for a female prisoner, it would have been preferable for female police to have handled the prisoner but that isn't always practicable or possible.

    Absolutely.

Firstly I do not envy the police having to deal with the type of people they have to deal with and being subject to the treatment they get. I have friends in the force.

I have recently been involved with them when my daughter and friends were attacked by a group and some of her friends assaulted. The response by the Police was quite impressive. Three patrol cars and the CIB. They stayed with the kids for over an hour questioning them and also returned to the scene to recover a bike and scooter that they left when they fled. One even apologized to me, as if it was his fault and seemed to think the fact that they were at a skate park at midnight was reasonable. I’m not convinced but I guess you should be able to. They then escorted my daughter and her boyfriend back to his house. His cars windscreen was cracked from one of the idiots jumping on it so the cops drove with him so he could get his car home.
    Good cop.

I have also been witness to pretty ordinary behavior as well. Bad cops.

Without knowing all the facts it is not really fair to judge too severely. I don’t think the Police should be able to use violent force against anyone unless they are being actually attacked. Clearly whatever this woman did she was no longer in a position to attack or threaten all of them. The only reason for the treatment appears to be that born for exasperation or annoyance. Its understandable but not really desirable. That said would I be very upset to see the police do that to a rapist or child abuser? Don’t think so.

why try to make a person stand knowing they are drunk? why not cuff her to a chair? all a drunk person wants to do is sit down, bit of common sense? now it looks like they are using excessive force when really they are just trying to keep her up right. sitting her down would have avoided everything plus avoided wastin man power on one women.

Police don't handcuff drunks to chairs. If she was too drunk, she could easily sit down and fall out of the chair and suffer an injury. It's more likely she would be placed in a cell or dock where she could lie down after the charging process, which is probably what is going on during the video. That film is cut very short too, so we don't know what followed.

The officer used no more excessive force than he would for any other drunken idiot.

Perhaps they should have just let her throw herself on the ground possibly causing more injury then these cops have done to her. I was expecting them to be throwing her all over the room seeing this is such a hot topic.

For a second it just looks like they were trying to take her prints but they were just keeping her hands/nails a safe distance from themselves and pulling her up onto the charge desk because she was flopping to the ground like an infant throwing a tantrum.

Full props to the police IMO, good job boys

Well simply walk a mile in the shoes of those you are about to Judge, to often the authorities are labled thugs in uniform and unfortunatley there are an extreme minority who abuse the authority but there are thousands throughout australia who protect us everyday and get assaulted spat on stabbed objects hurled on them all because someone called and wanted help and those that were the aggressors someow felt aggrieved because they should be allowed to do what they want when they want regardless of the law or the lack of civility they possess, Victorias laws are a joke as are the penalties and sentences handed down every day in our courts, but still those men and women struggle forward in there uniforms on shit pay and worse conditions, doing the job we ask them to do, everyone of you who criticise the police I bet a million to one if your house is robbed your car stolen or you are assaulted, your on the phone dialling 000,

When I clicked on the link I expected to see footage of Police kicking and punching the girl, maybe even a baton or two thrown in.

This supposed whistle blower has an axe to grind me thinks.

I thought it was pretty hard to see with all the blurring if she was really drunk or she was being stubborn. If she was that drunk it wouldn't have taken a police officer on either arm and one in her back to get her on the counter. I also would like to know what happened before we see that footage, if it's just a drunk girl then it wouldn't have taken so many cops to get her in that room, but as Sashyre said there is her side the cops side and the truth, I'm not passing judgment as I don't know the whole story.

It was not that harsh anyway.

You probably picked a poor example. Every time I have been ripped off the standard response is that they will be unlikely to catch whoever it was. Other than the time I mentioned the two times I called the Police to attend a late night disturbance they arrived about an hour later.

Who cares? Let police do their job without scrutiny. If these means a few people get hurt again who cares, it might gain the police some respect back and fix the social #### up of a problem this country has.

"Let police do their job without scrutiny." Wow. I don’t think anyone should be able to do their job without scrutiny. This may be of interest to you.

And no one gains respect by acting outside the laws they are supposed to be upholding. In fact it damages the reputation of the majority.
