Has anyone ever sold a car on carsales or carsguide online ?
looking at selling my Vy acclaim
wondering how easy the process is and some advise about it
It's pretty straight forward mate, ive advertised on carsales before.
I sold my Silvia on Carsales, easy as, all I did was sign up to the site, pay $60 with my credit card, uploaded a few photos and filled in my car info etc, and they sent me a free rear window sticker [one of those FIND MY CAR ON CARSALES : (phone number)]
With carsales, once you pay $60 and your car is up, it never gets taken down unless it sells, then you manually go on the site and remove the ad. Mine sold within about a month. You can track how many people view your ad & click on it etc, and it makes a graph-thing up showing what the differences are every day etc, mine had HEAPS of views but I guess only 1 person wanted it badly enough to check it out, and he's the guy who bought it lol. I sold it for $5500 9Advertised for 6k) and I only paid $4250 for it haha, rare to make money off a car sale

just to add, im not sure if it does work the same as Bikesales (i sold a bike on there)
i did every month had to go back and click "extend ad" or so forth so it would not get taken down.
obviously so it doesnt clog up the system. but just check it out. and they did send me an email every month reminding me to renew it.
Also they would send an email at the end of the week saying how many people have viewed rah rah, all you have to do is occasionally log on to the site, just to keep your ad activated, just so they dont have heaps of cars that are sold or no longer availible etc
its worth advertising there, was the first place i looked for my car, typed in VX SS and bought it that weekend.
lots of people use it
I sold a VY wagon for my olds through carsales. Stupidly easy! Car was gone within about 10 days.
Oh yeah that's right, you have to keep logging on every month otherwise they close your ad, though I tend to find that when searching for a car, alot of people look at the "last modified" area of the ad, cos' if a car has been on there for a long time & been updated heaps of months ago, then it tends to get overlooked.

Best to state that you want phone calls only, even better to put down a landline, there is so many scams running with private advertisers these days it aint funny
ok sounds good ill put mine up soon, thanks for the info
also how do you arrange freight, i live in north west queensland, should i just "put pick up or arrange own frieght for vehicle" ?

Well you put where you are located, so for example when I bought my VL the seller lived at Maroochydoor and I lived at Petrie, which meant a 3 hours trip [Due to traffic] to get the car, and a 3 hour trip back [IN the car] so if someone's really that keen to buy it, and they live ages away, it's up to them to sort it out when they come have a look at the car. Even if someone in NSW wants to buy it, they have to either ring you and ask about it or drive/fly up and see, you don't really have to put what you don't really need to on the page, but you can if you want. In my opinion, if they want to freight it, they pay the freight cost ON TOP of paying you, not taken off the price tag.
Unless you're selling the car unregistered/unroadworthy/undriveable, then you need to note that on the page for, as you said, freight purposes. As for what those cars go for, I have no idea apart from others on Carsales.

ok
yea its registered untill dec this year, but i dont have a road worthy on me does that mean i have to go get a roadworthy for them.
more people would buy a car with a roadworthy, as you are required to have one to register a vehicle (in vic anyway)
it shouldnt be too expensive to get a roadworthy done, and it also shows you what may need to be fixed. eg a cracked windscreen
My son and his wife have had 2 cars on Carsales for about 6 weeks now and not had much interest, he keeps dropping the prices. Maybe the price and style of car has a lot to do with the success, one of the cars is a near new VW Golf priced at around $30k, maybe there are not many people floating around with a lazy $30k.
It might work better with cheaper priced cars.
Yeah you have to have a roadworthy to register a car, BUT you still can sell it without one, though not alot of people would pay $13,000 for a car without one.

I tried to sell my E series Maloo through there, I came to the conclusion that if it's a decently priced car ie above 40k that it's a hassle selling.
I'd get 2-3 calls a week, the instant I asked for a deposit before shipping (sorry but in no way was I shipping a 50k car without having a deposit) I'd never hear from them again. Came to the conclusion the site is full of dreamers.
I have sold a few thru carsales. You need to be patient unless you price it very cheap. I had nothing for several weeks on end and then a heap of calls all at once.
Reaper
yea i think it only cost like $50 to get a road worthy in my town so might as weel get one
I only really want to sell my car so i can get a Sv6 ute
its a great way to sell and buy i have sold probably 4 cars and bought 5 all through carpoint, and bought/sold 1 bike the cheapest 5k the most expensive 49k for an 81 911sc, take good shots of the car, as close as possible, as a lot of people have scenery shots that dont take enough detail of the car/bike, the other good point is that intersate/global prospective buyer just beware of scams, no cash no car/bike, good luck
deposit to hold the car, 100% before they take it. And if sendin it interstate I recommend deregester it, so they don't drive around on ur plates. Or transfer the rego details.
All in All I have found car sales to be an easy place to sell a car
Life tastes sweeter when it's wrapped in debauchery!
The thing that I hate about selling cars on line is the dumb ar..s that make offers. I was selling my immaculate worked statesman and the offers I got made me want to pull my add, one idiot asked if I'd be interested in swapping for his older stock as wagon that had more klms on it!
The guy who bought my car left me a $1000 deposit on the day he inspected it, and it took him a week to get me the money because he couldn't get a cash loan due to some crap about anti-terrorism or something, so I said "here's my bank details, throw the rest in there" and sure enough, a week later, it's in my account, but after I saw it online I rung my bank and made sure it was legit & that I wanted to be able to withdraw it all that day, and once they said it was clear & legit, I rung the buyer and he came and got the car, and then I went to the bank and got the cash out (For the VL lol)
