    Default the 'v8 saving fund'

hey guys, i'd just like to have a bit of a rant about some comments on this forum.

i've logged onto just commodores forum to discuss and learn about commodores. I generally go to the v6 modification section, as i have a v6 and wish to learn to modify it to my liking.
The one thing, that i am getting sick of seeing, is the 'big v8 boys' coming onto the v6 development and modification section and saying such things as "save for a v8" and "your wasting your money"
I just think that there is no need for comments like that, as some people, including myself enjoy working on their v6 commys, and may plan on buying a v8 in the future.

so does anyone else agree with this? its getting really bad, to the point where i can't even find useful information in the v6 section.

Have to agree with you there...I love a big beefy V8 just as much as the next person, but at the end of the day its not how big it is...its how you use it. And the thing is, if you like your car, you enjoy working on your car, and you enjoy driving it, doing mods on it is not a waste of money. Just as an example, this VT is a V6, and I would certainly not consider it to be a waste of money. I myself drive a 4 cylinder Astra, which has half the amount of power of a V6 Omega at the flywheel, and although I'm not considering doing any engine mods to it at the moment (mostly because the whole purpose of me having a 4 is to try and save money on fuel), but once again, its a good car, I enjoy driving it, and while I do spend a bit of money on it here and there (for example, new headunit, also looking at putting in new speakers, as well as an armrest), I certainly do not consider it to be a waste, simply because the car lacks an extra 4 cylinders.

thats exactly right mate. as i mentioned before, i own a v6 and ive spent thousands on it, but i don't mind, because i enjoy modifying and more importantly, driving the car. at the end of the day, it what you want, so go for it.

I not long give my VZ V6 wagon to my fiancee and bought myself a VE SS ute so having one of each in the family I can say they are both fun to drive cause I just love cruising in the commy but I also have to say that the 6 litre is heaps of fun. I have always thought a quick six will turn more heads cause if you gear a V8 you sorta expect it to go hard. Hope my thoughts make sense

good work speaking up commoVT!! i agree with you 100%. how do people know about your financial situation? i for one can afford to do mods whilst im on my p's and throw in a v8 on my blacks or even buy an ss/hsv.

i say if someone asks a question about there v6 commodore.. give them proper and helpfull advice and not shut down there passion for commodore's!!

if i did nothing to my car whilst on my p's and bought a v8 on my blacks i wouldnt have as much knowledge compared to if i worked on my v6 on my p's. by the time i get a v8 i will know what to do and what not to do!

definitely agree, i myself am saving for a v8, won't be for a few years but when i do finally get my v8, i will probably get rid of my v6 and move on, it just depends on what you want at the time. plus im on my p's at the moment so the v6 is all the power i need

Yeh, have to agree with this. The old "buy a V8" line doesn't help anyone. Also, not everyone owns a V6 just because they're on their P's, i've been off my P's for about 8 years and still own a V6 (also have 2 V8's though) and it's my weekend car, not my daily driver. This is by choice, for the money i could have bought a V8 no dramas.

Sure, there is merit to buying a V8, but saying it in the V6 section? What's the point?

there is nothing wrong with a v6. they have plenty of power/fuel economy depending on what you need it for
its more of an each to their own, whereby people state their opinions on "save for a v8"

but if people start asking, how can i make my v6 sound like a v8. or how to beat a v8 etc etc
then id say its fair enough to say "save for a v8"
how about we make the pedals out of sticky rubber and the shoes with steel spikes. at least my shins would like that

I do agree with that though, you'll never get a V6 to sound like a V8, end of story.

don't worry mate, it's not just V6's, unfortunately there are people at most of the Commodore forums who believe unless you have a LS (or derivative) engine, then you are wasting your money. Holden V8 owners cop the same crap.

sadly there are some people who don't realise that everyone has their own reasons for chosing a particular engine to modify. Not everyone can afford or even want a LS engine.

Most of the time it is p platers asking the v6 modification questions...
I don't see a point to it because it's illegal for them anyway...
