Default Idiots that drink and drive

Id like to hear some opinions on drinking and driving. Im not against people having a drink. Us Aussies know how to have a good time.
7 weeks ago I was stopped at some lights when another driver who was drunk ( allegedly..I have to say until blood test results are back next week)....
this guy smashed into my baby ( my VY commodore) and not only injured myself and another family member.... he wrote off my car.
Now this guy was apparently that hammered he couldnt stand.
I watched a show tonight called RBT... and the people caught over the limit seem more inconvenienced at losing their licence than the damage they can do to people and property...absolute selfish wankers

Personally I think that anyone who would get behind the wheel of a car after they have been drinking has got complete shit for brains. I love to get hammered and have a great time just as much as the next guy, but at the same time, I would never get behind the wheel of a car after I've been drinking, regardless of how little or how much I've had.

This is a website that I've shown to people on occasion who think that there's nothing wrong with drinking and driving. If reading her story and looking at her before and after pics doesn't change someone's thoughts on drink driving, nothing will. No matter what people say, there are always alternatives to drink driving. Even if it involves staying somewhere else for a night, its still better than ending up dead/seriously injured/done for DUI, or seriously injuring/killing someone else. Sorry to hear about your VY, I hope you get nice new baby soon

Ta Astranomical I have just picked up another VY. This one is a year older than my last but Klms are pretty good. Just looking at rims online as we speak. Im finding it hard to get attached to another car...knowing Im at the mercy of other drivers. Hopefully once rims are on and its tinted I will start to feel the love again lol. As for the scumbag that hit me...its going to take awhile to see justice. About time our courts were tougher.

Main thing is that you're ok...as disappointing as it is to lose your car, at the end of the day it can still be replaced. Still, I understand where you're coming from...I had an old fart in a Hilux take out the driver's side of my car last year, even though it was just panel damage, and his insurance company paid out (since it was his fault) I was still shitted off enough...if I were hit by a drunk driver I'd be putting a price on their head.

I've had to move my ute at a party once after a few beers, it took so much concentration to do the simplest things...
I honestly don't know how people can think that they're capable of controlling a car when their abilities are so inhibited - it's just selfish and plain stupid.

    Yep.
A number of years ago I was the designated driver with my mates on a night out on the town. I didn't drink alcohol back then in thsoe days and got to be the designated driver in some awesome cars. That was always a highlight.
It must have been 2am when we were going through an intersection with the green light in our favour on our way home and an absolute eff-head T-boned us at speed. I was injured and my mates were okay.
The driver of the car that collided into us was a drunk L-plater with his eff-wit P-plater mate next to him just as blotto. They tried to drive away even though their car had a front wheel pushed under their car. We were lucky that it wasn't worse for us.
We found out that these twits were doing laps of the street and displaying their low IQ (ie "weak wheelies" and "limp handbrakies") up until we ended up with them in the drivers side B-pillar and writing off a car that was immaculate and done up by my mate.
We called the cops, had some witnesses and we copped abuse from the wasted L-plater until the cops arrived. Turned out the L-plater jumped state and disappeared afterwards.
I'm grateful I'm still alive and have learnt to manage my injuries with some lifestyle changes.
I am not fond of drink drivers or drugged drivers.

When I was young we had a car end up between the stobie pole and the front stone wall of our property at 5am. The HQ holden was reduced to the size of a LH Torrie and one of the rear passengers fell out of the car bleeding badly and collapsed. I walked up to the car and it stunk of booze from 10 feet away. The driver had the steering wheel bent around his chest and his seat pinned the passenger sitting behind him. He was up to his eyeballs in bourbon. He started to "wake up" and was sobbing when he looked at me and said "Sorry". I just told him he was going to die and that there was nothing I could do.
Well you should have seen his face when I said that. It's not everyday a 12 year old gets to say that to an irresponsible adult. No one was wearing their seat belts in that car and they had just left a local party. Suffice to say the lucky SOBs survived and the driver didn't deliver on his promise of repairing the damage to our stone wall. My Dad had to arrange for that to be rebuilt.

I'll never forget each of those accidents and how they sounded when the cars came to a sudden stop and watching the aftermath.
Mind you at a young age I had seen too much carnage in front of our property and understood what the most likely causes were: Drink driving.

I'm all for anyone having a drink (dont drink myself). but once they get behind the wheel with enough in them and get caught. they should go a row of shithouses for it. these people on tv have this nonchalant look about them. but trust me in 24 hours time once it starts to sink in, they change attitudes once their transportation is removed. nothing worse than relying on others and or public transport for 3 months.

    Honestly
i have no reason 2 lie i have a try to keep on the limit and have a drive no problem with that tho.
onetime i had about 4 in a hour decided to show my mate my car.
I felt pretty sober anyways went for a rap down the street all was good till a 4wd stopped on the middle of the rd then turned its spottys on me witch i shit my pants and thought it was the 5-0 so this road is one of those smooth gutter roads so i thought hey ill just quickly turn up here like its my house i decided to run up the sharp gutter and bust my new wheel up.
For reasons i wouldnt have a clue in the world.
woke up in the morning like #### im a idiot new wheel later for no reason at all
so yer drink driving is gay u make stupid decisions
turned out it wasnt even the cops lol

One of my mates was done for drink driving, he tried to get sympathy from me sayinghe hadnt had that much... He doesnt realise I saw him stumble towards his car and then fall out of it before he could get it going. I told him he was a complete f wit and I wouldnt be friends with him if he kept doing it. The next weekend he hit a brick wall which had cctv cameras on it and drove away from the scene only to be done by the cops again. Since that, hes started giving his keys to a sober person before he starts drinking and they refuse to give him his keys back...

I cant stand drink driving. Its not that hard to get a taxi, a friend to drive you or to remain sober... On friday nights, I leave the pub and see who's cars are parked there that I know, then I watch half of them get pulled over not even 200 metres down the road and get done for drink driving. Makes me happy

I can understand you not forgetting the sound of the accident and the aftermath. We thought we must have been hit by a truck.... the noise was that loud.
Im still getting flashbacks and find it hard when I see car accidents on TV or on the road. The best saying I have is..."Think before you Drink ".... in other words plan before a big night.

I will put a pic up for a short time in my albums...the pic is of my beloved Commodore after an (alleged) drunk driver smashed into me. I wont keep the pic up too long...its upsetting. But I feel its important to see.
The car...I know its just a car to most people and I am alive... but it was my car and I cant wait to see justice done !!
Thanks everyone for their views on this subject.... its good to hear so many of you are doing the right thing

its true about not forgetting the sound of an accident, when I was about nine (lol not too long ago) me n my old man where on the way home from my nans birthday night, anyway he had an old fairlane and it was one with the 6 seats, and for some reason (pure luck) I wanted to sit right next to dad rather then my norm spot in the back left of the car, anyway long story short we where t-boned by a drunk driver going through a red light, and I ended up with my head resting on the bonnet of the other car, with a slight cut to arm, too this day I still remember the sound of the car hitting us.

And look most of us do drink, but if ive had a good drink im paranoid about driving the next night

there shouldnt be a second chance for high range drink drivers, due to the fact there is never a second chance for the person they hit and kill

drink driving laws in this country are retarded. it high time they brought them in line with europe and some parts of america where you are able to be .08 its just another one of australias "nanny state" that says you dont know how to look after yourselves so we are going to do it for you. the ownus should be retruned to the driver.

.05 means you can have 1 and a half stubbies of beer.... 1 and a half? who the f'k drinks half a beer? and bars serve white and red wines in the same glasses regardless of their alcoholic content, so what you think to be a standard drink is actually a 1.4 drink, and after 2 glasses you are OVER THE LEGAL LIMIT.

.05 is clearly set to confuse people into offending. .08 means the average person can drink two bottles of beer of 2 glasses of wine SAFELY without fear of being charged with drink driving. instead of "f'k it im over the limit anyway, may as well make the drink driving charge worth it" people actually take responsibility and say "OH, i am feeling the affects of the alcohol i have drunk, i had better stop drinking"

anyone that agrees with .05 is a bloody idiot.
