Default First Defect and Ideas on a possible new car

Just gt my first defect on my VN as i was meeting mates on prinny highway. one unroadworthy tyre on a set of wheels from my mates VR, told the officer i had a tyre to replace it but as the wheels had gone on at 7pm, i couldnt change the tyre til morning. Gave me a minor defect requiring a RWC to clear it as well as a hefty $305 fine for driving an unroadworthy tyre.

Mind you.. this is as other cars are doing burnouts and racing down the highway and i was just cruising down to park my car and walk to my mates.

So ive decided that theres no point spending money in making the car roadworthy as its hail damaged and has less than average interior.. only salvagable items would be the motor, LSD and wheels.

I've been pretty keen on picking up a VX S pack in manual for the last few months and this latest incident has kinda pushed the thought of getting it sooner rather than later.

I'd be looking at spending around 8k so any thoughts on the issue and the car would be much appreciated.. also anything i should be looking out for in the VX?

    Cheers

Seems fair enough to me, it WAS unroadworthy at the time, no excuses, but it looks like you have excepted that and not having a winge like most would

So you knew the tyre was unroadworthy and continued to drive on it. You do realise it's also defectable to not a have a decent spare according to most officers right?

With victorian laws.. NO spare isn't unroadworthy, HAVING a spare, and it being bald IS unroadworthy.

However ANYTHING can be defectable under the eyes of the issuing officer, however it's up to the roadworthy inspector (licensed mechanic) to prove its not

I drove around on a tyre where the wire was showing [Had it replaced the next day though, as soon as the wire started showing], but I got pulled over & the cop had a go at me for it, and all I got was a defect notice & a $40 fine :/ All I had to do was swap the tyre over and pay off the defect fine

Well it was put on at 7pm and i drove down to meet up with mates and have since had good rubber put on. not whinging about the defect.. thats fair just the RWC requirement is a pain in the arse! i dont understand why only one unroadworthy tyre.. not showing wire but just down on to the wear markers could imply getting a $300 fine and a RWC/defect notice

And i have a brand new spare in my boot.. he asked if i had one and i showed him it.. asked if i put it on can i get away with anything.. just laughed at me.

As for the new car.. im being fussy.. want black with leather interior and hoping for a manual

Also would anyone know if i need a rwc.. is that to show that the tyre is roadworthy or the whole car is roadworthy as it only says 1x tyre to be replaced on the defect notice

RWC shows the whole car is roadworthy. I think you can just go in and pay the defect fine at your local transport place without showing a RWC, unless it's stated on the defect notice. If it's stated on the defect that you must provide a roadworthy, then you need to get one. They check your whole car mind you, so if there's anything on the car that you know will get picked up, fix it!

Going back 20 odd years I got a defect (yellow canary in my day) for one dodgy tyre on my first VN, right rear oops...just had to get it replaced and take car to local police station to verify it had been done..

I didn't even have to get mine checked by anyone, for all they know I could have just paid the fine & kept driving on the bald tyre

bummer man but you get the good and the bad with cops and it must have been a slow day for him.. The rwc is a car as a whole.. Acording to a few cop mates and wife that the vn/vp are cop bait cars

I only just remembered this thread coz of the "like" that I got..

When it all boils down to it, defects are an asshole of a thing, I recieved one last night.. I'm not contesting it coz whatever the cop got me for is right.. however, yeh.. im not gonna get into it..

Basically u get defected, its then upto the owner of the vehicle (in most cases) to prove to vicroads, via a certificate of roadworthiness that your car IS infact roadworhty -OR- that all the defective items are now fixed and the car is now worthy to be safe on the road..

I completely agree with full defects - on DANGEROUS cars, polluting vehicles (epa) and whatnot. but there's more to my opinon, i truly cbf going into it fully though.

Sure is. It's $305 for driving a vehicle not to standards of vehicle registration (or something along those lines.)
pretty fkd, coz you then need time off work, rwc, (IF the vehciel IS roady and ur proving so)

I copped a minor for 3 things a few years back and the cop forgot to tick the rwc required box, just went down to vicroads with my new rear tyres and the fat pig behind the counter was puzzled and asked if I changed my swaybar bushes to which I replied "yep" you can come have a look if you like, mind you it was 42 degrees outside and she said no its ok lol. Thanks mr policeman

Mind you it was a blitz, was on my P's in my torana and I got pulled up on my way home from work and got told to "follow the officer to the testing station", no-one left that carpark without a defect.

Wait you are calling him a prick for trying to keep the roads safer? he's doing his job and there is no way i would let an un roadworthy car slip through just because someone cried poor. so now if you have a crash and insurance find out its unnroadworthy your up S*it creek in a barbed wire canoe. i have been done for a couple of stupid fines but this one is not stupid in my eyes.
