hey guys
git a bit of a problem, and i thought maybe someone here knows what to do next.
here goes
earlier this year i went to get a new phone on a plan, i was informed that they couldnt help me as i had money owing against me. and gave me a number to call.
so i call the number whic ended up being a debt collection agency, who due to privacy laws could give the details of my own credit history over the phone(wtf).
so i got an online credit report it showed that i owed money to an energy provider(not sure that i should name them) so i call them up to sort it out.
they told me to call the debt collection agency, so i did, who then directed me back to the energy provider. after chasing round in circles the energy provider cant find the account and i cant pay through the debt collector as the debt has been withdrawn bu the energy provider.
so i still have money against my name and seemingly no way of paying it.
so should i speak to an ombusman? if so which one? maybe a lawyer? im at a loss as to what to do with this.
thanks for reading(sorry about the novel length post)

can you get a note officially written and signed by the energy provider showing you have no money owing to them.
then take it to the debt collector?
Speak to Veda and explain the situation, they will give you the only advice you should listen to.

What you may need is a letter from both the energy provider and the debt collection agency saying there is no debt against you. Provide this to the credit agency you contacted to get your credit report. Then you should be able to get the debt removed from your credit record.
right, thanks for the advice guys ill give them a call tomorrow and ask for a letter saying i dont owe them money. see what happens from there.

Any more news on this? I'm in a very similar situation with Telstra and I would like to know how I should handle it.
well i got it all sorted out after more then 20 phone calls and about a month of being ####ed around they retracted the bad credit rating and reviewed the account from $518 down to $188(which i happily paid) all sorted now.
advice to above, get in contact with the legal department of the company and tell them the situation and keep at them till they sort out the problem.

This reminds me of when people came to my door, and I signed up for some energy company, and my GF got mad at me for signing up since we were already setup through AGL, so I rung within the 7 day cooling off period and cancelled, but they didn't cancel my account and sent us a bill for $300, & had cancelled my GF's account without telling us, so after about 2 months of arguing to them, the eventually closed my "account" and forfeited the $300 bill, so we went back to using AGL and didn't have to pay anything to the other company, so we got 3 months free electricity out of it haha. It was their bad, though
