Help/Advice needed to gain employment in the mines

Hi everyone, I realise this subject has been discussed previously as I frequent the forums pretty much every day but I thought I'd get an up to date 2011 answer. Long story short, I live in Adelaide at the moment, am 26 with various employment experience and currently working as a MR truck driver for a removalist company. I do only have my MR truck license with no other licenses and only a couple of irrelevant certificates.

What do I need to do to break into the mining industry, what sort of people are mining companies really after? Would I be best to do some courses and/or get licenses, etc?

Just to clarify, I am currently employed, am after pretty much any mining job, willing to move somewhere if required and very willing to do any shitty job available as I've done them before :P
