gday guys
im having a few of the blokes around soon and weve all decided rather than getting slabs of beer we'll pitch in for a keg
does anyone know where a good place is to get them?
i saw on a "hire a keg" site for around 250 for a 50L keg
would i be better off going to a grog shop or hire shops ect
just thought ide see if anyone has got some before and for how much roughly
cheers
aww yee, me and a few mates did that once, i would try and add some help for you on this one, but when you have 50L of booze in front of you, thinking is the last thing you do.
EDIT: that should help http://www.hireakeg.com.au
brew your own = absolute best option
I'd second brewing your own, how much time are we talking? Should be able to get a brew done and on tap in a couple of weeks![]()
we havent actually organised the date yet, so time isnt an issue which means there would be time to brew my own
then that brings me to another question.
where do i get that sorta stuff?
ill do some research about it, but if you guys can guide me thatl save me the time.
how much of a price comparison is it?
would also be fun brewing my own, itl be like having another missus
Not sure about Melbourne we have a few brew shops scattered all over, Brew Craft springs to mind.
The best advice I can give is be very very clean, it can be as boring or as exciting as you want it to be.
I spent close to $2500 setting up my All Grain setup at home on my own brew sculpture, all the kegs was on top of that.
As for a price comparison a carton these days costs ahh $40 for a carton? $40 for a batch can easily be done including hops and yeast, this will make about 20 - 25L
If you do a search for Aussie Homebrewer, kit and kilo would be what your after which is the most basic form, the worst part with beer making once you've stuffed ie infected, too many hops etc you've really stuffed it lol
KEGS ON LEGS!!
i had a kegger a while back and used kegs on legs. is wasnt cheap but great service, they came and set everything up, then picked it up about a week later. great night had by all![]()
Here's another site that might be able to help you with the homebrew option.
Oliver and Geoff's homebrewandbeer.com
I hire from my local pub. They are cheap. Give your local a call...
have you tried to contact a proper brewery directly in regards to buying a keg straight off them?
fosters (CUB) in abbottsford may sell you one, or they might say to go to their bottle shop (which is around the corner from the brewery from memory as they have their own special bottle shop/s)
wow, really appreciate the help fellas.
i dont think i can afford a home brewery if its around a $2500 set up. but maybe down the track i will.
ill call up a few local pubs round my area, i think theres about 4 within a 5km radius.
thats not a bad idea abuot calling up an actual brewery, i was on carlton draught website and they had nothng really bother than adervtisments.
so far, carlton draught has been best keg price at 229 - 250 without taps ect
then theres white rabbit n ales which are 300 - 349 ish.
thats from all the internet sites and hire a keg places.
ill call up a few pubs and see how i go, and try bottle shops
again, cheers for the help
I couldn't agree more, I started off with kit and kilo, to start off with your looking at about $100 for everything to get you off and going including your first batch (from memory), I would assume Coopers are still doing the beginner getting you started type of setup. They have an online shop and make a killing off the home brew from what I have heard.
If your into beer and appreciation of it I'd highly recommend doing your own, the standard coopers pale ale I did geez years and years ago was a bit watery for my liking but a bit of dextrose and some cascade hops really boosts the quality to a point where you would struggle to tell the difference.
All grain where I spent $2500 is if your really serious about it, I still have more to spend if I were to do it properly (ie upgrade fittings, change the sculpture design) but as mentioned it all depends on how committed you are, how much time you want to spend etc.
sweet only 100 bux. im all over that. i dont mind spending a couple hundred on it.
im gonna start looking around and get onto coopers.
i do love a good beer, even more if i made it myself
im gona real look into this
