I recently picked up a cheap 2nd hand fish tank and stand. There was a small crack in the corner of the front panel but at first glance it wasn't all the way through and i thought it had some silican on it. I filled the tank and it held water fine, but i didn't notice any water coming from the crack.
Anyways i moved the tank inside and began to fill it with the hose. Only then when the tank was completely dry on the outside did i notice that the crack was actually leaking. I've never repaired a tank before, so i just applied some silican to both sides of the crack.
Is this all i need to do to stop the leak, or should i be replacing the whole front panel? The crack is pretty much hair line, and is about 4 cm long and close to the corner.
Thanks to anyone who can help advise me.
Hey mate, new car i see finally off the P's then. You didn't own the VX for very long.
can you use one of those windscreen repair kits from supercheap ?
not sure if it would suit, but might be worth checking out
how much water does it hold... because when they leak it reallly sucks
imagine 100-300L of water in your carpet
Could try aquarium silicone from Bunnings, made by selleys. I've re sealed 200L tanks with it before, no worries. Or selleys 'knead it' or something like that, it comes in a tube about $10 - $15 its like a flexible putty. I've worked at a proper aquarium at a zoo and an aquarium shop, both places used those things. Just make sure you leave it time to cure then wash thoroughly before introducing fish etc.

a brace with the right goo
a flat pice of glass the size to cover the crack glued on the inside all sufface will need to be coverd with the silocone
Once cracked you will have to be careful of temp changes probably not to bad inside when i moved one of my tanks outside I put a small chip in the top of it thought it would be ok then we had a cold morning and it cracked right down and leaked all the water out I had to run around and put my barra in buckets while i raced up to get a new tank lol
But I would do what Shane said use aquarium silicone and some flat glass it seals really good
