Default car got hit - are there limits on time to report it?

    Hi,

My car got hit from behind and left scratches and paint cracks all over the rear bar. this is the first "accident" ive been in. I got the guys details and everything.
that happened about a week ago and i still havent let insurance know about it. i keep forgetting and everytime i think about it i dont have the paperwork....

Will my insurace company care if i call them a week after the event?

depends on your insurance company, but the longer you leave it, the more likely it's going to be knocked back
    get onto it asap

As Darren said, it really depends if they accept the fact you're a week late, as these things should be reported straight away, but I guess they should give you some leniency if you, I dunno, make up a short story on why you're late, family accident, something like that. I don't really condone it, if you're late then it's your fault, but I have made up a few stories to get me out of sticky situations before so I can't exactly talk lol.

Ring them ASAP, though. Who knows what the other guy has told them.

Source: Been in a few accidents, both my fault and also others at fault.

Report it. If it wasn't your fault don't part with the excess. Seems a few of them are demanding the excess up front before processing claims at the moment. Once they have it, you're at fault.

In the time it took you to post it on a forum you could have called and actually reported it.

I did mine after a month, reason being is because I didn't think i would have to break my excess - Should of told them anyway though.

my insurer just car gives you 24 hours to report ANY accident at fault or not, its in my contract i just read it

that is comprehensive of course but...

i got screwed once by 3rd party (side note i know)
cause in australia if you both have 3rd party the at fault driver has to lodge a claim with his insurer or yours wont pay out
took me 6 months to get paid out cause he simply refused to make a claim, and only other option was court small claims.
